The last thing I want to do in jinx it, but after a draft that went heavy on offense could Miami actually be an above average team on that side of the ball? It's been a long time since this offense has been anything but mediocre or less, maybe back to 2008 when the wildcat and Chad Pennington lifted the team to its last playoff berth.
Anyway, with the addition of Tunsil the offensive line looks really good with three above average starters in Albert, Pouncey and hopefully Tunsil. James is pretty solid with the only hole being at right guard with a camp battle likely between Turner and Douglas. Lots of athletic movers on the line, which looks much better in pass protection than run blocking.
At wide receiver this unit had top 10 potential prior to the draft. Landry is already one of the best receivers in the NFL and I believe Parker has superstar potential. Stills was somewhat disappointing last year so maybe that's where the Carroo pick makes sense. His play style resembles Landry's and if he turns out similarly nobody will even remember or care what the Dolphins gave up to get him. Grant may be the wildcard of this group with speed to kill and kick return ability.
The tight end position looks a bit thin on paper unless Cameron can lift his game under Gase, which is certainly a possibility. Sims is a decent #2 and there figures to be a camp battle for that last spot with Duarte a possibility.
After watching more tape on Grant I believe he may be the teams' starter at running back, or at least get the most playing time. This guy is ultra explosive, catches like a wide receiver and also has return value. I like Ajayi and he will certainly play a big role as well. The running game is still the biggest question mark to this offense taking that next big step.
At quarterback, I've been a firm believer that Tannehill needed more talent on the offensive line. I can't wait to see what he can do if this unit stays healthy and performs to its talent level. It's a make or break year for Ryan, but I don't think he needs to be an elite quarterback for this team to do well.
The addition of Gase has to be mentioned as well. It's interesting that every other team in the division has a defensive minded coach with Gase bringing in expertise on the offensive side. Miami needs someone who can match wits with Bellicheck. Do the Dolphins now have the pieces to do that?
