I know the prospect of not having a salary cap is terrify because the salary cap is what makes the NFL the greatest professional sport in the world BUT it could be a saving grace for the Dolphins. the Dolphins have the following players scheduled to be Free Agents after this season...

Ronnie Brown
Chad Pennington
Anthony Fasano
David Martin
Ricky Williams
Nathan Jones
Matt Roth
Davone Bess
Jason Ferguson
Tyrone Culver
Dan Carpenter
Jason Taylor

Those are some important parts of the puzzle if you ask me. Davone Bess, Ronnie Brown, Anthony Fasano, and Matt Roth are must resigns off the bat. Chad Pennington is defiently worth a look; I know we have invested second round picks in Henne and White but Pennington is really good. I'd hate to see him become a Bill and teach us a lesson. Ricky Williams will probably be replaced by someone in the draft, Nathan jones might not even make the roster this season, and everyone else should be fairly cheap. We are in decent cap shape for now but we have draft picks to sign. Jason Taylor is in his final year also but I could see this being the Jason Taylor farwell season.

Having zero salary cap could get us to retain all free agents. Should be interesting

there will either be a cap or no football at all

Penny will be franchised if he has another injury-free pro-bowl season

no cap would suck for the nfl. the salary cap is one of the main reasons the nfl is the most popular of all major sports.

plus that list of free agents wouldnt be nearly as difficult to resign as u make it sound.

They will come to an agreement. I like the new boss of the NFL Player's Association. He seems to not be as much of a control freak as Upshaw was. I cannot see the NFL going on strike like baseball did. It would kill me if they did.

whoever says penny will be franchised should never post again.
it has been said henne will start 2010, thats been the plan will be the plan. and penny does NOT deserve top 5 QB money. get a grip move on wow.

Why would Penny be franchised? I understand we would want to keep him but with the way this team spends money they will not be willing to give Penny that much money.

Brown and Fasano are the only real "Must signs" on that list. Carpenter isn't going to command that much on the open market, and, if he does..*meh*...Kicker. Martin is already a goner, I think. I believe that is already pretty much done. Ferg and Taylor will likely be hanging up the cleats, and Bess will probably re-sign for a non bank breaking salary.

I think we will be moving on from Pennington sooner than later. I don't think it's all that critical.

The three on that list that we have to keep are Ronnie, Fasano and Roth....I'd like to resign Penny and Taylor too...bu i bet that Ronnie and Fasano have deals done before the year is over cause they will be a huge part of our offense and are great players to build around

yeah that. even if it helped the phins, i wouldn't even want an nfl without a cap. the last thing anyone should ever want to do is model themselves after mlb.

I think they will also. Players, owners and the league understand how much money would be left on the table if they didn't play.

Or maybe they'd go with replacements and I'd get my big chance!

Carpenter and Bess will be Exclusive Rights Free Agents. That means they're not even allowed to negotiate with or sign with any other team under any circumstance whatsoever, unless the Dolphins waive their rights to them.

EFAs typically accept really low ball deals that cover the remainder of their time until they can become a UFA, which is after they've completed their fourth year in the league.

So, don't even really think of those two as free agents. They're free agents in name only.
