Nice read on Ricky..

I think Ricky could of been a hall of famer had we gotten rid of Dave Wannstedt one year sooner.

He was the best in 2002 with 1853 yards and 4.8 yards a carry.

Then in 2003 with our O-line pretty much made up of 3rd stringers he was used as a battering ram the whole season only averaging 3.5 yards a carry with 1372 yards.

He seen we weren't actually moving ahead but we were on the downfall and knew if he came back in 2004 he'd probably be used the same way and even have a worst season then he did in 2003. He said after those 2 years he couldn't even raise his arms past his shoulders.
I really think if they would of hired a new coach right after the 2003 season that he would of been motivated to play again and stay straight for 2004.

I think he just gave up and said "_uck this" I'm lighting up.

Rick Williams would have had a Hall Of Fame career if:

1. He would have kept his head on straight and made the right decisions.

No doubt. The talent is/was there, and he proved he could dominate at the NFL level just as he dominated at Texas. When he retired for the first time in 2004 i think you'd have to say he was on pace to be a Hall of Famer. Had he not retired, he would have strung up a series of 1200-1500 yard seasons at least, and the Dolphins would have never drafted Ronnie Brown so those seasons would be continuing still even today. He'd be over 10000 yards rushing with ease, and have a ton of TD's, both of which are HOF qualifications.

The way he was running the ball in 2002/2003, yeah, he was on pace. I think he just got worn out and tired of being overused. Just think of how amazing he was when his O-line consisted of Todd Perry, Tim Ruddy, Todd Wade, etc. He had all of those bums and he still rushed for 1800+ yards, so the talent was definitely there. To me, the turning point in his career was that Buffalo game in 2003 where we rushed him like 40 times. After that, he was never really the same.

So yeah, I think he very well could have had a HOF career. He just didn't make very good decisions after 2003.

wat a shame. ricky williams just if he hadnt retired wouldve been a lock for the hall of fame in my opinion. i remeber the day he retired i felt like someone put a knife through my chest. it was a real painful day because he had meant so much to our team.

He should go down in the HOF for most draft pics to aquire, between us and the Saints that's like three #1 picks, and the rest of the Saints draft his rookie year.

The OL in 2003 was almost the same as the line in 2002. There were however two big differences. Jamie Nails had not fully recovered from his torn achilles heel and Wade Smith replaced Mark Dixon at LT. Ricky just didn't run as hard early in the 2003-04 season has he had the season before.

To you have a link to this quote because I don't remember hearing him say anything like this.

In my honest opinion Ricky could have been a HOF player, but to be honest how long could we really of had him rushing like that year in and year out. Thats why we see so many good running back pairs in the NFL now. So guys arent having to rush the ball 40 plus times a game. To be honest the retirement and weed thing really hurt him, but how long would we of had him if he was really rushing the ball that much every week?

Ricky could've without a doubt been a HOF runningback, maybe even one of the best to ever play the game. But he had demons, the greatest thing about it is how he was able to overcome all of that. He's a Dolphin and I hope he is until he decides to hang it up.

ricky's the man... ill give him hall of game jus cus of the fact everythin he went through.. alot of players would have jus fell through wit no rebound.. he came bac and proved to everyone he was a diff person i respect that alot
