Most of those in the media are reporting—like Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald did in one of his most recent entries to the Miami Dolphins In Depth blog—that head coach Tony Sparano's job is still safe at the moment. Now we're learning from Barry Jackson (also of the Herald), in his most recent piece, that a close associate of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has said Sparano's status "might" be re-evaluated if Miami loses their upcoming game against the Denver Broncos at Sun Life Stadium this Sunday, Oct. 23.

To me, that pretty much sums up the Dolphins organization. That there would even be a doubt as to whether the Miami head coach's job security would be "re-evaluated" if the South Florida team ends up with a record of 0-6 is beyond ludicrous. In fact, it's already the height of insanity the 50-year-old Sparano hasn't already been fired.

Perhaps another brilliantly disguised move by Ross.

Intentionally leaking this stuff so that questions are circling the Sparano household, huddles on the field, local media articles, lockerroom banter, etc. this could become a huge distraction lol.

That's a fan writing his opinion. What exactly do we gain by firing Sparano now?

I honestly believe that Ross does not see the value in winning at all this season, much like the fanbase... As weird as it is, the more losses this team has this season, the more value the franchise gains.

I don't think so. Just like most pro athletes are bred not to play badly on purpose, rich guys
are not bred to fail on purpose. I just don't see Ross tenting his fingers behind his desk and
chortling as his investment bottoms out and he loses money by the ****-ton

But his investment will quadruple if he gets the 1st overall pick this season. Its a bit like high stakes poker. Its a gamble, but he stands to gain more by continuing to lose this year, than winning anything at this point. The playoffs are out of the question, so all wins do is diminish the value of the franchise because of lower draft status.

Again, I just don't think so. There's no garuntee that we'll get Luck, or that he's even any good.
Ross isn't very liquid, and, I don't think he's losing money on purppose.

Just wondering why Ross is mentioned so often as having anything to do with the mess that is the Dolphins right now... Aside from his SIZEABLE initial investment, he didn't make ANY of these hires... He has opened the purse strings when his so called 'football people' told him to... (Marshall/Bush) and he has vetoed obvious horrible panic driven lateral moves like Orton.

yes he screwed up on the Harbaugh fiasco but the truth is I won't get down on an owner who CORRECTLY identified the hottest, best coaching candidate and whose only mistake was going after him too aggressively.

If you ask me... Good, aggressive, bold decision making is exactly the kind of thing that has been missing up to now... Stepping on toes should be the least of our concerns like just like it was Ross'.

Few wins probably. That's why I say keep him.
We may win a few under Nolan but you still can't go out and hire a new coach right now. You may be able to start putting your list together which I'm sure they've been doing and you might be able to talk to Gruden, Cowher and Fisher who are all out of work (within the NFL that is) but you can't hire them right now and you still have to interview a minority candidate. We won't gain anything by firing Sparano right now. If you want to fire him wait till week 15 when there's two weeks left in the season then you can get a head start on the other teams. It will take 3 or 4 weeks to find a candidate anyway. We really should be finding a GM first.

We don't know he opened his wallet, I actually wonder if the opposite is true.

Im starting to think the reason he met with Harbaugh was to ask about Luck. This draft will be the first where having the first pick isnt the huge financial gamble it has been in the past. The looming NFL lockout this offseason wasnt the right time to go changing staff. Now that the dust is settled and a 10 year agreement between owners and players is in place you can make moves knowing your good till 2021.

IMO, assuming no interviews without an opening, Sparano is safe until other coaches begin to be fired. Once other teams start to interview for open HC positions, Ross will get nervous and have to get into the mix.
