I don't post much on here, but one glaring idea in my mind prompted me to share. Could new 1/2 owner Stephen Ross use his new influence to push for Jake Long? What Billionare wouldn't want to play with his new toy?

Stephen M. Ross made the single largest contribution to the University of Michigan by donating $100 million to the school. The University renamed its business school, The Stephen M. Ross School of Business in his honor. He is also co-shair of Michigan's fund raising committee.

I know Parcells doesn't usually bow to the man, but could Ross' connection to Michigan push Jake Long to the #1 pick?

Bash me if needed, but I feel that $550 Million for half of a team might buy you some influence on the #1 pick. Plus I would love to have another young stud on the offensive line. What better way to groom Beck than to protect him and let our running game put 8 men in the box against him?

Sounds like a plan to me . . . Jake just seems like the answer to so many things.

I was watching the Long highlights that are up on F0x today, and was really impressed. He is a monster, he looks like the safest bet.

Didn't he only give up one sack during his entire college career?

That said, I seriously doubt Parcells will bow to anyone after having Kraft & Jones as former bosses...

I'm really coming around to the fact that Jake Long is badly needed by this Dolphin team. I see Chris Long more as a luxury pick. When Jake gets plugged into our o-line, all of a sudden, we're a much better line. I'd like to see another o-lineman drafted with one of the second rounders depending, of course, on who falls our way. I think we will try to trade down out of the #1 but it won't happen. No sweat, we take Jake! We will trade down in this draft imo but not out of the #1. We'll make some moves to get more picks on day two. So 2 out of our first picks are o-line imo and the 2a or 2b pick will be imo a linebacker. After that we'll go cornerback, reciever and it would really be sweet to snag a quality tight-end. I think that's realistic that we could get that done. Getting Jake helps Beck and the running game to a degree that he has to be the choice.

He gave up one sack each of the past two years at LT.

He has a problem with speed rushers. JT would tear him apart in T.C. Realistically speaking, Parcells loves to draft o-linemen in the later rounds and develop them. I really don't see us going with Jake Long at the first overall pick. Plus, I think that Ireland is running the draft, and Parcells has the final say in who we pick. I highly doubt that Parcells is going to go off course from his plan because of Ross. Parcells is here to build a winning football team, not to kiss the owner's a**.

No Way!!!! Not because I dont like Jake Long, which I do, But let the Football people make all the football moves. After Parcells is done, if he wants to play, thats his choice. If he try's to make his move know Parcells walks and walks with everyone he brought in what a disaster that would be. Hey Ross hold on for 4 years and then you and Jerry Jones can have a ball...

I have said that I think Jake Long is the pick for a very long time now. But, I seriously hope that Ross has no influence on our picks. I wouldn't mind Long, sure, but it's a very dangerous precedent. We all know Parcells has had issues with it before, being force-fed players in New England and Dallas for instance. Here's hoping Ross doesn't interfere.

actually, he gave up one as a red-shirt freshman at RT and one this past season at LT. same with penalties; one as a freshman and one as a senior, 2 total for the career.

how can you say that when a guy only gives up one sack in the last 3 years? he doesn't have a "problem" with any kind of rusher.

Ross could have graduated from Podunk U and donated large $$$ to them, but I don't see how he has any say on who we pick. He's not Jerry Jones.

He has a problem with speed rushers? TWO sacks in 4 years. That, in my opinion, is not much of a problem. He is the best LT in this draft, he's got a great nasty streak, he's a top 5 pick, and we have the #1 pick. The only other guy that qualifys for that pick is Chris Long in my book. You are right about one thing though, history wise most everyone likes to pick o-line later. Why? Because the few great ones are long gone after round one and defense is easier and quicker to fix. But we are in a special position, if you will, at #1 so why not go a different route?

I surely don't have a clue as to who they will pick but I surely would not discount Jake Long just because he is an OL guy.
