No way the players go for that, being away from their families and stuff that whole time.

The NFL could certainly arraign it so that the families are with the players. If it was that or a shortened season, you bet your butt the NFL is going to move mountains in order to get every game in. There's a lot of money at stake.

All I know is if they are going to build some Olympic Village scenario, it would be interesting. If this were to take place, why not do it in Canton? Small population, setup already with a few fields and there's ample hotel space in the little town they could use.
