Cowboys Cut Sam!

Where is the outcry?

There is none and there shouldnt be.

I was rooting for Sam. I wanted the kid to get a fair shot and not have bigotry rob him of a shot to play football. That happened. He had his shot.

there never was going to be any outcry, just idiots that think that ST Louis drafted a guy because he was gay lol. Im surprised he was cut because he looked solid in preseason against grocery baggers and many people that did the same are still on rosters but people get cut all the time. Maybe he will work hard and become an NFL player. Cameron Wake wasn't drafted and was cut in preseason. Didn't get looked at by any team for two years so you never know.

I maintained back then that Jackson Jeffcoat at Texas was just as credentialed and recognized for his play as Sam, yet went undrafted but signed within a day by the Seahawks who ultimately cut him. This is the latest on him. There was no staged pomp and circumstance signing by Seattle, and no calls around the league like what was made to Jerry Jones. Not to say Sam won't end up on his feet, which I hope he does. My problem is with the league manipulation of the whole staged event for purposes of PR. Sam's got nothing on Jeffcoat and if not for some presumed quid pro quo with Stan Kroenke and the Rams, should also have been signed as a UFA. Enough with the BS that if not for the attention attached to him, he'd have been drafted earlier .. or at all.

That said, he seems like a good guy who has turned down interviews wanting to blend in and not distract, so I'm hoping he gets his chance to legitimately crash that barrier by creating a positive legacy on the field. My issues were not with him.. they were with the league, the rapacious media, and entities like Oprah who used him for commercial purposes, goodwill or distractions from more pressing negative issues.

Washingon promotes Jackson Jeffcoat, drops two defensive backs

Jackson Jeffcoat didn’t get drafted after completing a standout career at Texas that ended with him being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and he didn’t make the Seahawks out of training camp, but he’s finally landed a job on a 53-man roster.

The Redskins promoted Jeffcoat from their practice squad on Tuesday to give themselves a little more depth at outside linebacker. Jeffcoat played defensive end with the Longhorns, but has been working on making the transition to standing up since joining the team. Washington only had three outside linebackers on the roster before the move, so Jeffcoat could get chances on defense as well as the opportunity to contribute on special teams.

You don't think that a lot of teams felt obligated to draft him just because he was gay?

I mean guys, the Cowboys D-line is STACKED. It's a strength now. They brought in Sam when they thought it was going to be a problem this year. It's not. They don't need a) help there, b) to waste time developing a player their not committed to, c) frankly, the media storm that comes with the decision when to start a guy.

Plenty of guys bounce from a couple practice squads til they find that spot where a) they're needed, b) they gel, c) system/coaching clicks. We as football fans won't know what we have in Michael Sam until he gets on the field on gameday. Him being cut IS news. People complaining about it BEING news is BS. I'm interested in his career path. This whole "waiting for the outcry" sentiment is just an overcompensation from people being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Have some respect for the kid's bravery. Whether you like it or not, the fact that the NFL has gone so long without a publicly 'out' player is indicative of a problem.
