The Cowboys are at it again. Although they are 8-5 and still have a shot at the playoffs, they faltered at home on Sunday against San Diego, 20-17, and have to travel to face the unbeaten New Orleans Saints on Saturday. All of this suggests another December swoon is on tap for the Cowpokes.
Jones surely will fire Wade Phillips after this season. But then what? When he hires a celebrity coach like Bill Parcells, he meddles just enough to drive him off. When he entrusts the job to a retread, Jones casts such an overbearing shadow over the franchise that it's impossible for that coach to succeed. The next step might be Jason Garrett, another puppet.
