I think it is a matter of money in the long term and just needing a change of scenery in the short term.

Rooney isn't willing to cough up the 8 million a year that Cower thinks he is worth and I think he truly wants to spend some time of quiet reflection with his family in the Carolinas.

Two reasons come to mind.
1. Money, he my want to be the highest or one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL.
2. Control. He may want more control over personnel decisions.

I believe he built a home in Raleigh.

FAMILY.......AND MONEY. His wife supposedly told him, 'I am going to our new house in N.C., you can come if you want or stay here.' His daughters are in sports and he wants to spend time with them b4 it is too late. It is actually a good time for him to take a year off. Then he can come back and go to the highest bidder, if he does come back. He can pick out where he lives. Maybe Atl., maybe Carolina Panthers.
