"During recent workouts, Cromartie ran a 4.41 40-time on grass and a 4.37 on a track. Even more impressive is that he posted a 43" jump in the vertical. If he can post numbers like this in Indianapolis, and if he knee gets the okay from the NFL doctors, you can bet is draft stock will go through the roof." Warchant.com 02/21/06

He does that at the combine he goes top 10 ahead of Williams and Huff.

damnit! watch us miss out on him as well.

And think, those numbers are actually DOWNGRADES on the numbers Boomer and I previously heard from TFY. TFY was reporting that while working in Georgia, Cromartie recently posted a blazing 4.31 in the 40, and put up 25 repetitions of the 225 pound press. Supposedly, he's as close to 100% on the knee as he'll ever be too.

Gene Williams, the FSU guru at Warchant says that Cro is planning to run in the low 4.3's in Indy. This has been my concern for a fortnight, that he might be off the board if he blows up in Indy. But then there are a few players who look primed to blow in Indy.....Vernon Davis with what we heard today being one of them.....that MIGHT just MIGHT push someone to us.

Here's hoping.

He has scary potential. Not just because of the height and speed (there are a lot of corners who are fast, but can't cover) but because he can PLAY...and play extremely well.

What we have to hope is that Reggie Bush, DeAngelo Williams, and LenDale White withstand the flood and stay top 15 picks. Among those, all the LenDale in Glendale stuff seems to make Williams the most tenuous if teams get caught up in his size (shame too, I think he's the best of the three). There's speculation that Warrick Dunn could be Dunn in Atlanta and if that's true I can think of nobody better than DeAngelo to take his spot.

After that if those three go that high, I think we're on easy street as far as one of the high quality guys like Vernon Davis, Antonio Cromartie, Winston Justice, or even Chad Greenway falling to us at #16. You got your top 6 (seems set in stone to me and you) at Bush, Leinart, Cutler, Ferguson, Mario Williams, and Hawk...then if you manage to get the two other RBs in there that's 8...stick in a Haloti Ngata, Michael Huff, Chad Greenway, Vernon Davis, Antonio Cromartie, Winston Justice, Vince Young...that brings us to 15. From there, if a team up there gets enticed to take Jimmy Williams, then one of the above guys will fall to us (probably Cromartie or Young). Same goes for Demeco Ryans or Tamba Hali...someone gets enticed to take them then even more fall.

Either way it seems like no matter how many different ways I cut this draft, I'm coming up with a significant dropoff between my top 15 talents, and the rest...which doesn't bode necessarily well for us at #16, then again how often does the top 15 of the draft completely reflect the top 15 talents on the board. It's not usually THAT neat.

Wow. Pulling out all the puns. Here's hoping for an awesome workout from Tamba Hali!

One month ago you said there's no way he'd go in the first round but he'd be a good pick in the 3rd (http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/showthread.php?p=1927361#post1927361). What's changed in the last four weeks to change your mind?

Personally, I'd shy away from players coming off major injuries when you're picking in the top 20 and have as many needs as Miami does... especially when there should be a good prospect without major injury question marks available.

Unless Huff either gets hurt or has some completely terrible workouts, I can't imagine Cromartie going before him.

Huff's ceiling might not be as high as a healthy Cromartie's, but Huff's floor is so much higher than Cromartie's, due to injury concerns, that there's no way it would be worth the risk (especially with a top ten pick).
