The Miami Dolphins announced former defensive end Jeff Cross, cornerback Sam Madison, running back Tony Nathan and guard Ed Newman will be inducted into the team’s Walk of Fame on September 21, 2014 in ceremonies as part of the team’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The announcement was made following the team’s Training Camp practice at Sun Life Stadium, where the Miami Dolphins hosted their Annual Alumni BBQ in the Hall of Champions for former players.

The Miami Dolphins this year will honor great players from the different eras in team history.

Newman falls into the team’s foundation era from 1966-75. Newman started at both right and left guard for the Dolphins from 1973-84, going to Super Bowls VIII, XVII and XIX with the team. He was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad following the 1981-84 seasons and was named the team’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 1980-81. Newman is currently still active in the community, serving as a Miami-Dade County criminal court judge.
Fans are invited to attend the ceremony and unveiling during the September 21 match against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Walk of Fame was dedicated in 2012 at the Joe Robbie Alumni Plaza at Gate C of Sun Life Stadium. It was established to recognize individuals who played significant roles making the Miami Dolphins one of the flagship franchises in professional sports. The centerpiece of the Plaza is the rededicated Joe Robbie statue. The Joe Robbie Alumni Plaza is designed to honor the alumni and coaches that have been a part of the team's 49-year history. The past honorees inducted to the Walk of Fame are listed below in the class they were enshrined:

The 2013 class included linebacker/defensive end Kim Bokamper, wide receiver O.J. McDuffie, running back Eugene ‘Mercury’ Morris and guard Keith Sims.

The 2012 class of ‘Unsung Heroes’ included defensive tackle Tim Bowens, linebacker/defensive end AJ Duhe, defensive end Manny Fernandez, wide receiver Nat Moore and quarterbacks Earl Morrall and Don Strock.

The 2011 inaugural class were team founder Joe Robbie and the members of the Dolphins enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Head Coach Don Shula and players linebacker Nick Buoniconti, fullback Larry Csonka, quarterback Bob Griese, center Jim Langer, guard Larry Little, quarterback Dan Marino, center Dwight Stephenson and wide receiver Paul Warfield.

In addition, the Miami Dolphins announced Alumni Weekend will take place December 19-21, concluding with the Minnesota Vikings game against the Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium on December 21, where the Miami Dolphins will bestow Honor Roll induction upon a legendary former member of the Miami Dolphins.

Are Jeff Cross and Ed Newman really worthy of a walk of fame? I thought both were solid players, but not worthy of ring of fame or walk of fame honors?

Maddison is the only one I would put in.

The walk of fame is the second tier of the dolphins recognition program. It's not the same as being on the ring of honor. The ring of honor is reserved for the legendary Dolphins while the walk of fame is more for the guys who were great players, but not quite legendary enough to be up on the ring of honor.

Glad Tony Nathan got some recognition. Solid player and a good guy as well.

I watched both players and yes, they were outstanding. If I had to chose between the 2, Newman is more deserving.

Guys like jay Brophy, and Bill Judson get parking lot sections named after them..

Jeff Cross was one of my favorite unheralded players in the history of the Miami Dolphins. He was a hard working, unselfish, quiet player who was the only pass rusher their defense had for many of the years he played. If anyone on those defenses he played on could have rushed the passer even a little, he would have been an even more effective player than he was.
