In response to a little concern Hoops shared in reference to Dion Jordan not showing the expected progress so far this season

I'm starting to be critical of Cam Wake in this department. How long has he been a starter now? It's fair to stay he DOESN'T have a counter move at this point.
I watch Von Miller play against NEs Volmer whom Wake historically has had problems against. Miller used incredible hand technique routinely to get pass Volmer on several occasion. Further he beat him with a wicked spin-move inside(the counter) to generate pressure on the Qb!

Cam Wake is too small to beat NFL tackles to the inside with power. Which IMO is why he tries to rely on the quick burst outside. However there is NO EXCUSE for Wake to not have na inside spin move or some other counter to the outside speed rush

Which brings me to my point and your observation with D.Jordan

Supposedly, we have a good D-Line coach. I'm personally starting to question that. If a long time starter like C.Wake hasn't developed or been taught an effective inside counter. What hope is there that the Rookie in D.Jordan will?

BTW:
Von Miller - 6'3"- 250
Cam Wake -6'3" -258

Without Wake, this team has one win. If he did not have the MCL, how many other wins does this team have. He is the team's best player.

I question his dominance! I'm sorry but he's to easily taken out the game. Yes, he maybe the best player on our team. But, IMO that doesn't mean much.

He's been the best player on the Dolphins for years now. Even without the counter move he gets insane amount of sacks, QB hits, and pressures.

The injury he sustained this year really has hurt his production. I think he'll be back to form soon.

All true and he could be so much better!

Wake has had a fantastic career as a Dolphin. Coming from the CFL, I didn't expect much. Sure he may not be the caliber of Von Miller, but when you look at his career, I doubt you would have expected him to have 50 sacks in less than 5 seasons. Hes been one of the teams best player on defense for years. If you want to criticize someone, criticize Jeff Ireland for not putting together a top notch defense around him. Von Miller gets his sacks and is a fantastic premiere pass rusher, but the Broncos defense still sucks. It takes more than 1 guy. If you put Cameron Wake on San Francisco, I'm sure San Fran is still an elite top notch defense. Heck, they were a top notch defense even without Aldon Smith.

I understand he isn't a Jason Taylor, but hes been the best player on our defense for awhile now. Why haven't we drafted somebody in 5 seasons to be better yet? I can name all the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks of Jeff Ireland on defense, and not one has had the career that Cameron Wake has had on defense. In fact most of them aren't even on the team anymore. I understand that Wake shouldn't be exempt from criticism, but everytime when this game is going on. Everyone is looking for two guys to make a play on defense and that is Wake and Grimes.

With all the players, coaches and GMs justifiably inviting harsh criticism, it's either a waste of time or just some hard-wired mental masturbation focusing on the team's best and gamest performer week in and week out despite the plethora of uncalled holds which has reached the point of ridiculousness, as someone who could be even better (hell, a case can be made that there exists room for improvement for most every player of every skill level)

This reminds me of the criticism Jason Taylor mid way through his career. He was too light and couldn't take a full season of going up against high level left tackles. He needed to put on weight, etc. I think Cameron Wake has a great bull rush, granted he can't do it ever play like he is Reggie White, but I don't have any issues with his game.
Von Miller is an amazing talent with a low outside rush that is unbelievable. I never saw Lawrence Taylor do what Miller has done at times with that fast low outside pass rush. I think Millers great inside spin counter move is there for him because he has a great outside rush.

If I had any criticism about Cam Wake, it would probably be around the other parts of his game, like reading/defending the run or dropping into coverage. To me it looks like if you force him to make too many reads or think too much, he hesitates and is late on the play (or sometimes makes the wrong read). But if he just has one assignment (get to the QB), there are very few in the league who do it as well as he can.

I'm a big Penn State football fan and I remember watching him as Derek Wake playing OLB. One of several highly touted recruits and part of a linebacker corp that was known for being very athletic. He was almost always a stand up OLB and often was used in pass coverage. I'm sure there isn't a PSU football fan that ever dreamed of him being the player he is now or for that matter getting more than a few sacks while playing at Penn State?
