Props to Czonk............

It's about time his #39 was enshrined and retired. This is a long overdue event in my personal opinion.;)

Csonka's number to be retired
Former fullback Larry Csonka will become the third player to have his jersey number retired by the team. Csonka wore No. 39 from 1968-74 and again in 1979. He'll join former quarterbacks Bob Griese and Dan Marino in receiving the honor. Csonka was the leading rusher for the team when it achieved the NFL's only perfect season in 1972. He did it again the following year when Miami repeated as the Super Bowl champion. The NFL Hall of Famer remains the team's career rushing leader with better than 6,700. The Dolphins will honor Csonka at halftime of their game against the Bears on Dec. 9.

The event will take place on December 9th, a Monday night game at Pro Player Stadium against the Bears.

While his number has never been officially been retired, Csonka is the only Dolphin to ever to wear 39.

Csonka will join Bob Griese and Dan Marino as the only Dolphins ever to have received this honor.[/intro]

In his eight seasons with the Dolphins, Csonka amassed 6,737 yards and 53 touchdowns on 1,506 attempts. He also caught 91 passes for 688 yards and four touchdowns.

His career rushing totals rank first in Dolphins history. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Csonka amassed three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons (1971-73), as Miami advanced to the Super Bowl each time.

He was named the MVP of Super Bowl VIII following the 1973 season, when he rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on 33 attempts in Miami's 24-7 victory over Minnesota.
