The Chicago Cubs' ownership is showing new manager Lou Piniella that they are serious about winning.
Chicago radio station ESPN 1000 reported Sunday that the Cubs have agreed to an eight-year contract worth approximately $136 million with outfielder Alfonso Soriano.

He wants to play 2B, but he and Cedeno would probably be the worst defensive combo in the majors.

Pinella is in a perfect situation......and getting key assets 40/40 Soriano (OF or 2B I wonder?).

Cubs just need healthy arms and Lee back at 1B...but getting another bat in Soriano is big time addition to that lineup.

A "young" 30. Soriano keeps himself in great shape.

Anyways, he deserves this type of money. In that ballpark, wouldn't be surprised if he hits 60 homeruns.

CF??? I am sorry, he may have got away with LF last year (and could be ok at it again), and he has proven to be serviceable at 2B (as long as you accept some laps moments).

But CF? No way, he has not shown to have that type of talent to be a CF in my eyes.

Are they trading Pierre?
