I really hope the trend does not continue if indeed Pennington is the newest Dolphin. I can't help but wonder why Miami signs these veteran QBs who are seemingly past their prime. I really believed in Culpepper, really believed in Green, and I want to believe in Pennington but it's easier typed than done. Granted Culpepper and Green each had injury problems during their tenure in Miami, but so has Pennington. Hasn't he torn his rotator cuff twice? I understand the desire to have a veteran to mentor the young QBs but is it really worth it if these veterans aren't succeeding and ultimately setting us back? At least in this case there's no loss of draft picks. Let's hope that difference will carry over in terms of Pennington's play. I'll admit I'm not a big fan of Chad and never have been, but of course that will change once he's officially a Dolphin. I'll be the first to jump on the Pennington Bandwagon if he succeeds here. I just hope the Dolphins didn't set themselves back another year or two with this move. Here's to hoping for the best :beer1:

I really don't think that they are setting themselves back. Chad Pennington is a starter in this league. I'm not in denial, he has been shredding us up for the better part of the decade. The only downfall I see in this is that we don't have a BIG NAME WR (LV Coles)that he can throw to on a consistent basis, we really don't have alot of threats from our WR's. None the less he is an upgrade over what we have on the roster at the QB position. I am pleased with the signing and look forward to seeing what he can do for us.

this move i scrap end of story let the one guns play stop bringing in old terds. with surgically repaired throwing shoulders.

I think that's a legitimate point, hopefully Ginn, Hagan, and others can step it up this year and get on that "BIG NAME" level

he is an upgrade over what we have on the roster at the QB position

On paper this is true, but for all we know Chad could flop, fizzle, and just plain SUCK here. I really hope that isn't the case. Time will tell.

Long time reader, first time poster. Penny will do OK for us, I've got a hunch. He isn't like Culpepper or Green. He's got a good eye with a great read of the field. He'll throw on a rhythm and advance the chains. Yeah, we're not going to see Manning quality bombs down, but we've got ourselves an intelligent guy who will really help save the Dolphins from more humiliation. 8 wins?

Nice first post, just hope you're right

The big difference between the Culpepper, Feeley, Green and Harrington acquisitions and the Pennington acquisition is that we did not have to give up any compensation for him.

We wasted draft pick after draft pick bringing these guys in. I am just happy that Chad Pennington got here without it having to be through a trade.

HARRINGTON! I knew I was forgetting someone. Like you said, as I said in the original post, at least we aren't giving up any draft picks this time around.

It amazes me how many Dolphins fans fail to understand McCown's or Pennington's purpose. Their purpose is placeholder. Without them, Miami would have two quarterbacks (Beck and Henne) with a combined five NFL games played (all Beck's). You simply cannot go into an NFL season with NO experience at quarterback, even if you think one of the experienced guys is the future of the franchise.

The organization views Henne as the quarterback of the future. They did when they drafted him, they do now, and they will next year. Parcells & Co. believe Henne will be guy. Whether or not he pans out remains to be seen, but everyone needs to realize that the organization HAS chosen it's long-term quarterback, and right now it's just a matter of waiting for him to develop and be ready to take over. Until then, a veteran placeholder IS needed and McCown was that. Pennington is an upgraded one.

I don't know, I think you may be downplaying the expectations of the front office. I don't think Pennington was brought in for over 11 million dollars to be a veteran placeholder. In that case, why not just keep McCown for that job? Why would you need to upgrade a placeholder if he's you know...a placeholder? Sounds contradictory.
