I can't help but to think his confidence just isn't where we hoped it would be at. There are other threads here bashing Mularkey, but I refuse to believe that deeper routes haven't been called. I also refuse to believe that our receivers were never open against a very weak Buffalo secondary.

All these dumpoffs I think are a product of two things....1. Crappy O-line play but even more..2. Daunte has become gunshy, plain and simple.

He just seems to not have the confidence to try to go any deeper than 10-15 yards (and thats being generous).

Thoughts??

"Gun shy"??....I don't think so.....

He's just not a very good decision maker, and when he's under pressure, he's even worse. No more excuses for Culpepper, either he makes us better / worse at QB. Thus far, we look worse....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

It's a 'win-win".I think the 3rd week is the charm. We beat the Titans and CPEP gets some much needed confidence. We lose and he's out for good. Either way, it's good!:D

I think he's still just really rattled from the injury. If you watch him, he wont make his reads (he'll pull it down and try to scramble if his first option is covered) and when he does throw, he wont go through his mechanics, he just awkwardly wings it. I've never seen a QB more uncomfortable in the pocket, and he wasnt like that before. IMO, we should rotate him in with Harrington the next few weeks, because he's just not ready to be our full-time QB yet.

Gun shy?

... wouldn't you be if our O-line was "protecting" you?

i have to agree a little he does need to take one on one coverage chances with marty and chris more often.

Im not sure exactly where the problem is with the passing game, but they are obviously not going down the field as much as what I thought they would. There were more than one occasions when C-Pep had someone open but failed to see him. He also seemed to hang onto the ball a little too long. I was a little dissapointed on the other side of the ball as well. The run defense does not look as good as it did in recent years. I noticed Crowder shooting the wrong gaps on a few plays but he is hardly the one to blame. Next week is now a must win and hopefully they can gain some confidence from it and get into a winning rythm.

My opinion is that Culpepper did not play enough during the pre-season. He seems to have very little chemistry with Chambers and Booker. I'm sure he looks great in practice playing against the Dolphins D, but playing against another team, at full speed is a little different. I'd have to say that the coaches are probably at fault for not letting him play enough in the pre-season, but who can really be sure at this point.

Hopefully things pick up as the season progresses. I do agree that the offensive playcalling has been fairly bad from what I've seen, but if Culpepper is just not throwing down field, then its easy to say its the playcalling.
