Cut Albert Wilson Draft Ruggs

I don't have an issue with that reasoning, but i believe Wilson restructures anyway.

I do question the wisdom of factoring in "Tua familiarity", when making a draft pick.

If he's BPA, that's one thing, but being a Bama guy is irrelevant, IMO.

Particularly since Tua is not a "given" to start with.
With our last 1st you can very much argue he is BPA and our first 2nd he’s definitely BPA. I’d also much rather pay Melvin Gordon $12M (who I hear we are going to try and get) vs $9M to Wilson.

Like I said, I expect Wilson to restructure, and agree, 9 mil is too much, given not only the injuries, but the fact that he is in reality a #3 reciever.

Personally, I think the reciever position is a couple spots down the list as far as "need", but will defer to Flo on that call. He certainly has a lot more insight than I.

I think a lot also depends how FA shakes out, when talking about day two picks.

I would rather see Grant cut than Wilson. Grant is a return specialist disguised as an NFL receiver. There are some that keep saying that he is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball but he has had 4 seasons to show something and he still hasn't done anything. Others on this board want to cut bait with players with similar production after one or two years but they give this guy the benefit of the doubt for some reason. Besides, Grant has also missed time each of the last two seasons so it isn't like he is the model of healthiness and durability.

The salary for Grant doesn’t even compare. Hes getting $4M and cutting him only saves $2M vs $9M. Not the same situation, but I do agree that the Grant contract was a mistake.

A smarter choice would be draft KJ Hill from Ohio State the 3rd round. He will be a draft steal just like McLaurin was last year. Hartline is the best WRs coach in college football.

Ruggs is already being mocked mid first round as well as Reagor who has been moving up the board.... I'd hold onto Wilson until we know we have a replacement.. he started to seem more healthy and quick towards the end of year. I'm down for drafting a wr in a talented draft, but we HAVE to address OL first imo

Hartline is coaching their WRs these days? Pretty cool for him to be able to get back there and get into what he loves.

Not a big fan of creating a hole to fill with so many needs. We can afford Wilson for now, need to see how the draft falls. Hell, we might trade our first round for Tua anyway.

I totally want to cut Wilson, however I would go in a different direction in the draft to replace him, my order for is:

1. Lamb
2. Jeudey (although for Miami Jeudey is probably the better fit)
3. Shenault
4. Ruggs (the problem I have with Ruggs is that he's not going to be a better value pick where he goes, we need an OT or CB probably at 18 and he won't be there at 26)
5. Raegor
6. Hamler
7. Aiyuk
Then a ton of other prospects, such as Peoples-Jones, Jefferson times two, Claypool, Gandy-Golden and on and on, there's tons of depth in this class.

I certainly don't think we should ignore this WR class just because we have two pretty good ones in Williams and Parker.

Gm’s shoot their load on WR’s with speed just as they do with QB’s with arm strength. For that reason Ruggs will be gone by #20 and there’s no way I’d use our 2nd pick on a WR even if Lamb and Jeudy are still there.

I don't know that this position necessarily needs upgrading after seeing a recovered Wilson's final month… .and if so, given our priorities of needs, certainly not before the 3rd round.

The best position group in the draft and best WR draft in a while and some dont think we need one because we got one good year out of an often injured Parker. Williams is coming off an injury. Crazy.

Yeah Yeah I know we need oline but get a couple starters in free agency so we arent hamstrung by having to draft olineman when the better talent is at WR.

If a Shenault or Lamb or Jeudy somehow fall to 18, you run that card up.

Well, even if Williams comes back and picks up where he left off, and DVP builds on last season, the rest are quite pedestrian.

I would say there isn't any unit that couldn't be upgraded, but I agree, there are higher priorities in the 1st two rounds.

That might change, depending on FA, but I doubt it. FA isn't going to get us a top tier OT or pass rusher, that can also set the edge.

It's not so much that ppl think we couldn't upgrade, just that some think there are higher priorities.

It isn't as black and white as all that, IMO.
