I know I might get ripped on here for suggesting this but to me cutting Bell for Goldson makes sense. Bell is 33 years old and struggles in coverage. He is great in run support but this is a passing league. The Pats picked on Bell and Crowder in the passing game all day in that season finale last year. We replaced and upgraded Crowder, now it's time to replace and upgrade Bell.

Cutting Bell means a $4 million cap saving which would be enough to sign Goldson. What do you guys think?

Goldson is a FS

True but he can play SS also. If not, then move Reshad to SS as that was his natural position in college. Reshad and Goldson would be one heck of a fast playmaking safety tandem.

Goldson is a FS first off. But assuming youd move clemons or Jones over to SS. . . I wouldnt be against it if not for the sole reason that we got rid of Crowder. let me explain. . As much of an upgrade we all hope and expect Burnett to e over channing, fact is that he was great at diagnosing plays presnap for the defense and viewed by the rest the D as a Leader on that side the ball. The next biggest leader on the Def is Bell. You can only mess with the chemistry of something so much before you start to mess with the results no matter how good the pieces your plugging in. Its about a group trusting and coming together. Everyone has to play their parts for it to work. Its one thing to ask Kevin to come in and fill the void left by Crowder and also rovide an upgrade. Its another thing to ask two different guys to come in and fill the shoes of the two leaders of the def that finished 6th in the league the year prior. You'll end up doing what sparano and Co did to our oline from 09 to 2010. . . my 2 cents

i think the replacement for Bell will be the kid we got last year from University of Georgia I forgot his name the one who intercepted and sacked Vince young last season. I think at Defense we are loaded in talent. Even the free safety Chris Clemmons plays good. D-LIne we are beyond set. Linebackers looking good we could snatch a cheap OLB to back up Misi and Wake. We need to focus on Offense now, get a true #2 receiver does not need to be a flashy name but Hartline is a 4th receiver at best behind Bess.

Nothing wrong with Bell, IMO.

I don't see this as an upgrade. :idk:

No he wasn't. He played more FS and stated that being his preferred position in the run up to the draft.

What's funny is that while I haven't watched too much of Goldson play people have no problem talking about him as a FS even though he had 4.6 speed coming out of Washington.

Yet somehow the general consensus on the board is that Reshad Jones should be moved to SS because too slow... yet he ran a 4.5.

I'd love to roll with CC+Jones at FS. Bell and Wilson at SS. Let Bell mentor Wilson and when Bell leaves(after next year) Wilson takes over, or we can draft/sign a FA

Leave the defense alone and concentrate on getting 2 good starters on offense.

our crappy QB's need all the help they can get on that side of the ball

Dansby will be just fine replacing Crowder to lead the front 7 and make calls from there. Dansby made the calls and reads for the front 7 when he was in Arizona and is a leader.

Now that Dansby had a year under Mike Nolan's system , this is a formality. He will make the calls for the front 7.

And Dansby is an every down player. Unlike Crowder. When Crowder left the field in games it was Dansby making the calls last year anyway

True but i think Jones could play SS and Goldson at FS. If we keep going in with Clemons and Jones FS and bell at SS we will keep letting in big plays over the top ..... again!

When? I mean every team is gonna give up a big play . . . hell Ginn/Henne got the Jets on that famous play we had against Revis . . . it is going to happen, but seriously compared to 2009, 2010 was night and day when it came to big plays over the top, and a large part of that was the play of Chris Clemmons when compared to Gibril Wilson. Plus it is only year 3 for Clemmons and year 2 for Reshad Jones . . . very premature to give up on that kind of progress . . . don't you think?

In the grand scheme of things, Goldson may not necessarily be an upgrade at all over either guy.

No to Cutting Bell
