What, if any, ramifications does the signing of Cutler have on signing Landry to an extension? Someone calm my fears.

An extra 10m on the cap (all this year) certainly doesnt make it any easier to sign Landry

I am sure I am in the minority, and I like Landry, but if they are paying him like a top 5 (or higher) WR then I need to see better than 1 TD per every 22 receptions. I know he moves the chains and makes tough catches, but he has go to get in the end zone more. I don't care who is a QB...

Another thing to factor in here is that Cutler's style of play actually favors Parker over Landry. Jarvis's production might be down this year compared to last. That could factor into negotiations...

Honestly . . . none. If Miami wants Landry back, nothing changes. All this signing does is give us $10 million less to roll over for 2018. Now ultimately that $10 million could impact any other free agents we tried to bring in but I wouldn't toss Landry's name in with those guys.

I'm not really big on stats but I know Landry will give his 200% each play and his energy is contagious as well.

Think of it this way. The max amount of cap space we could have created for 2018 was about $50 mil. That would require moves like cutting Juwan James and Julius Thomas to do it. And this just reduced that number by 20%. Like KDawg said. We can still re-sign Landry if we want. But we just lost a good chunk of spending money for 2018.

Ever heard of a guy named Eddie royal?

I watch HGTV with my wife sometimes and they have a show call "Property Brothers" and they will have a budget . . .and often built into that budget is a "contingency" plan. This $10 million was essentially Miami's contingency plan budget . . . so if you take it like that . . . really this costs us nothing when it comes to 2018. The only difference is if something else goes wrong, then we have to cut something in other areas as we no longer have that $10 million to lean on.

I feel 100% confident that if Jarvis Landry is not a Miami Dolphin in 2018 . . . the money we just gave Jay Cutler will have had nothing to do with it.

i don't think cutler's game is going to be feeding landry in the middle - i think dvps and stills will get a more balanced serving this year - don't think it has any real ramifications on us signing him or not....$10m of which only $5 is base? it's a small peanuts deal.

There's 3 mil in space for 2018. The roll over was going to give them space to extend Landry. If they want to sign him they'll have to make cuts elsewhere. Not as easy as some think it will be.

Way too early to speculate on this. On one hand Cutler does take away cap space from next year, but on the other it could signal we are moving on from Tannehill next year which would create 14+ million. Too many moving parts at this point.
