Wow. the Bears believed Cutler was the man, and the had the balls to ante up. You have to respect that.

Now, what do you think??? Does this mean that they get the next Elway (there will never be another Marino ) or.... will the whole episode blow up in their faces?

Does anyone else smell a whiff of the Hershel Walker trade, where Jimmy was able to use all the draft picks to build a dynasty?

Boom or bust? There can be no in-between here. What do you think?

Well he's the best QB the Bears have ever had and he's never even taken a snap. Hard to be a bust in that scenario.

not quite a HW deal...

Depending on what you think of Kyle Orton, they got less for Cutler than we gave up for Ricky Williams

Remember, they gave 2 firsts, a third, and an established NFL quarterback for him, he better be damn good!

only 2 firsts.

The Broncos gave up Cutler and a 3rd for two 1st round picks.

EDIT - Oops....looks like the story has been updated. Bears did give up a 3rd also. my bad.

This is AWESOME!! Now we don't have to worry about the bears swiping up Hakeem Nicks!! Its just those pesky Vikings we gotta worry about now. I am really hoping they go OT!

I applaud the Bears for doing this deal. Cutler seems like a perfect fit for them.

I agree, ballsy, but big. That and the addition of OT Pace is huge. I think it makes the Bears a very crazy dark horse. Watch out for them.

The biggest needs the bears had in the past was the QB. I think this might be a case of it being too late now. Hard to say how good this years bears D is gonna look. If they stay tough, Cutlermay be exactly what the doctor ordered. I think thos draft picks are going to be painfull to be without.

Denver better make the most of those picks and really work some cap magic, if we still have one after this season. If Denver doesnot hit on thier picks they are going to come out of this looking like fools. Just like if Chicago dosnt go deep into the post season with Cutler they are going tolook like fools.

I think they both are going to look like fools at the end of the day. The bears overpaid for Cutler and the Broncos did not get enough compensation for him. I know that sounds contradictory but I think it is going to ring true.

Not even close. Many people forget how big that trade was. Here's the breakdown:

Vikings received

RB Herschel Walker
Dallas's 3rd round pick - 1990 (54)
San Diego's 5th round pick - 1990 (116)
Dallas's 10th round pick - 1990 (249)
Dallas's 3rd round pick - 1991 (68)

NOTE: Brackets () indicate the overall pick number.

Cowboys received

LB Jesse Solomon
LB David Howard
CB Isaac Holt
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (21)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990 (47)
Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990 (158)
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional) - (11)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional) - (38)
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1993 (conditional) - (13)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (conditional) - (40)
Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional) - (71)

There will never be another like this one.

wow. look at the picks! That is HUGE.

Put that together with JJ's nack for finding draft talent and it is the Perfect Storm

Personally, i think the bears got ripped off.
I'm still not sold on the Cutler hype... offensively, the guy has everything he needs and his QB rating is very mediocre considering. Compare his numbers to Kyle Orton (who is a b rate QB) and its frighteningly similar.

My bro is a big bears fan so i have had to sit through alot of bears games. Let me ask this: why do you think the bears have never had great QBs? Do you think the fact that they play in the windy city has anything to do with it? However you want to look at it, Cutler is going from a great situation (Mile High) to a terrible situation (Windy City).

I also think this trade reeks of desperation. The Bears FO seriously mortgaged their future on this trade and this is very unlike them. You're talking about a team who has frequently traded out of the first round to accumulate picks. Now they trade 2 1sts, a 3rd and their starting QB for Cutler? To me, the GM is pulling a NY Jets move and going all in because he knows this could be his last year.

I like Cuter, so I will say the Bears got the better of the deal. It's nowhere near the HW trade though.
