obviously everyone knows where we stand with cap right now and we got money to sign bradshaw or Williams and Antwan Barnes. So if we cut lou, culver, and sapp could we sign marshal yanda without cutting Carey

I think the team will remain largely unchanged with the players from last year when all is said and done. A couple of the draft picks will stick and maybe one or two FA pick ups to churn the bottom of the roster. All the teams will have very little time to put a cohesive unit on the field. Making lots of changes this off season will doom the chances to make the playoffs.

7-9 again with all things even.

9-7 if there's no major injuries and the breaks go our way.

M.Yanda would be a dream pick up but I highly doubt Baltimore is dumb enough to let him go!

Behind Long/Pouncey/Incognito/Yanda/Carey it wouldn't matter who was at runningback, my grandmother could rush for 1000+ yards.

They can't cut Carey this year. Cutting him this year would cost us an additional $2M against the cap. It is too early in his deal, and we are under water with his signing bonus. His base salary is $4M. His cap number is $6M, because it includes $2M of his pro-rated signing bonus. If we cut him, his cap number becomes $8M because that's how much of his signing bonus still needs to be counted against the cap. Now, in 2012, that's when the scale shifts. His cap number for 2012 will be $7M, but cutting him would cost $6M. Then it could happen, but not in 2011.

They have the the money to get a 2 QB's, 2 RB's and a G, if they want to fill all them needs "without cutting anyone"....Not sure they would spend a lot of money on a G after drafting a Center in the 1st round, but if they love their job and want to keep it, you'd think they would.

BTW~ Here's more on it http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...-from-spending-a-little-money-in-free-agency/

The problem with the Palm Beach Post article is that Violin is saying that they have twice as much money under the cap as John Clayton is reporting. Clayton is reporting that Miami has $13M total, while Violin says it's $25M.

After draft picks and our own free agents are signed, they will have about $6M for free agents, based on the Clayton report. A backup QB on the open market gets about $2M (which is what we offered Thigpen). A quality guard is looking at a deal worth $5-6M per season. Guys like Bradshaw and Deangelo Williams will be looking for deals worth $5-6M per season, similar to what Michael Turner got. Without cutting anyone, they are going to be limited to a mediocre backup QB, a lesser known RB, and some veteran minimum types for depth on the OL, safety, and pass rush specialist.

If the Violin number of $25M is correct, then obviously, everything changes.

i thought the replacement for carey did a decent job last year for us and was a lot cheaper...... but i also didnt know about the cap hit and everything it basically doesnt make sense to cut carey and i dont think a team would trade anything decent for him either.

i keep remembering last years f.a deals that we did that we gave them a lot of money upfront for the 2010 season because it was upcapped and the years after it went down.

i still want to see a offical salary cap of what we have and who has left our books before i say any judgement tho.

Volin isn't accounting for Soliai's 12M cap hit with the franchise tag. If that number gets reduced to 7-8M I'd be quite happy with 17 mil in cap space.

we shouldnt cut Carey..hes not all pro T, but hes good. we might be able to get something in return in a trade. we would be stupid to cut him or Crowder for that matter. we need to use these pieces and not just let them walk.
