Hey. This is my first post on this forum, but as a long time Dolphin fan i felt compelled to give my humble opinion on a man i have enjoyed watching for 12 years. The man that made me stop staring at the QB position and instead focus every down on what the MLB was doing.

I can see reasons for Zack to go, his salary, his health, his age. But at this time in this franchise's situation i dont get it. Now if we had:

i) drafted a ILB last year that was ready to play (we didnt)
or
ii) had Crowder proven himself last year filling in (please)
or
iii) was sure to get a great ILB in the draft (?)
or
iv) there were good, young ILB available in FA (nope)

then i could understand it. But as it is our LB core is a shell, with only Porter as a proven LB who really just had an up and down year. Crowder, Pope, Spragan........ makes me want to watch soccer.

Now if we play a 4-3, Zack would make perfect sense to keep, we draft Dorsey, a 2nd day ILB and we have a decent defence for next year. Then his contract would expire and based off of his year and the potential of our drafted LB we decide wether or not to keep him.

If we play a 3-4, (which we really wont untill JT is gone, till then we just play a hybrid), then we address the NT/DE and take a 2nd day ILB hoping the year after he can replace Zach.

As for the cap hit, we are already 30mil+ under, although his contract should have been reduced, the Dolphins are still way under. If we were at 10mil, then its a different story.

This upcoming season it would be optimistic to hope for a 4-6 win season, and Zacks salary, health, and age arnt going to change that. But to see him retire a Dolphin is priceless. And what did we gain from cutting him, absolutely nothing.

Rebuilding is priceless actually, if you ever want to have a good team again. Zach makes too much money here. He often did not have the answers to the fix when questioned. He was not a positive beacon last year for his team mates. Our defense over past years was great, but often blew it in the 4th QTR. It is time.

it was mainly money. Obviously if he wasn't making almost $6 mil this year, he'd be worth keeping around. We cut him instead of trading him out of respect IMO so he can go wherever he wants to finish his career

How does "rebuilding" effect our MLB position and Zack if we got nothing for him and we have no replacement. Give me one or the other and i understand. As for the cap hit, we are 30 MILLION UNDER, his hit for one more year means nothing.

He was a god even great player but he makes most of his tackles six yards deep... He is likely gonna sustain another concussion this season if he pursues this career thing...

I disagree with the reason for letting Zack go. If money had been the reason he would have been asked to play for less. He stated in an interview that he was never asked to take a pay cut.
Parcells stated in his initial PC that players' health was a priority. He remarked that upon hiring on somewhere else (he didn't mention the team by name) one thing that stood out was the huge stack of injury reports. He further stated that by the next year the stack of reports was only a fraction of the size of the prior year's. If you think of the players who have been cut so far most have a rather lengthy history of injuries.

Oh and this who I think will be Zack's replacement -

Parcells could have sent Zach to a really crappy team where he had zero chance of winning. But I think Parcells wanted to give Zach a chance at a ring elsewhere. The Phins are rebuilding, and we may end up seeing JT playing elsewhere next year as well. What Parcells did was the right thing to do.....maybe that doesn't make "sense" but I think it is the honorable thing to do.

He's 34 with a long standing history of injury problems. If kept, he would be playing in front of Channing Crowder, stunting his growth (yes, I think we start Crowder in the middle next season). Letting him go frees up cap room in advance for free agency.

This will probably be his last year. He deserves to go out a champion. Chances are he wouldn't go out as one as a Dolphin.

The move is a good one and makes perfect sense.

this team has more holes than the rest of the league put together, what is one more?

the Tuna wants to play 3-4

makes all the sense in the world

30 Mil under but we're down 10 players. We're obviously going to be signing a few FA's which if they're worth anything (they better be), will take a little bit out of that. And our 1st 3 picks will take a lot out of that Cap come the draft.

Trust me, I too hate that Zack's gone & that we don't have the answer for him, but we've got a lot of holes to fill & this team has got to be filled w/young talent if we want to be contenders again in a year or so.

Plus he's not getting any younger & even though he's always around the ball, you've got to be on the field to get stats. And I don't think we could afford to pay him $6 Mil to sit should he get another concusion. They're bad news.

need to get younger/ 3/4 defense/ money/ stay away from concussed players/ D.Conner wants to wear 54/ rebuilding/ no trade value/ fans don't run football teams/ because/ lost a bet/ BP wants his parking spot. Do you need any other reasons?

Parcells did keep 5'11 LB Dat Nguyen around for a few years though and he fared well. Then again, Nguyen was younger and cheaper so Zach's leaving is probably tied to those two factors more. I just hope Zach doesn't end up as a Patriot and produce for them the way Seau did this year.

This is old news Decleater...read thru the 40 other threads about Zach...and please, his name is Zach, not Zack...
