D-Thomas looking like he added some muscle

That pic of Martin makes him look sub-300lbs. He needs to hit the weight room.

Not sure about Thomas adding a lot of muscle. He came in last year around 228 lbs., looks to be in that neighborhood now.

At that weight he can play some FB in our two back offense with Bush or Miller as the HB. A fullback with good hands is needed in the WCO.

Wow Martin is shockingly undersize! Then on the opposite on the spectrum John Jerry is morbidity obese I think he is actually sweating Hersey Syrup!

A lot of NFL rookies get a several pounds or more size bump coming into their 2nd season. J Martin will be 20 pounds heavier next year. At 7 pounds stronger and with his hamstring healed I'm expecting more out of D Thomas.

Philbin says that we will not use a FB very much. What he does want is a short yardage back and someone good enough to play FB when needed so C Clay does not have to. D Thomas never was a bruising runner IMO, he runs picking his way like R Brown did. We do need to see him lower his head and make the hard two yards when he needs to.

D. Thomas from what I have read about him in the past should do better in this offense. His style in college was to cut back which I believe fits the WCO better than the ground and pound he was brought in for. He has the size to play the ground but he runs upright a bit to much. D. Thomas gets a ton of grief on this site for being picked in the 2nd round but I believe there were only 3 backs picked in front of him. Two went on IR and Ingram with the Saints was barly as productive and went in the first round. We were in a need position for a running back when we picked up DT. He was not really a bad picked based on who was picked in front of him but I hate to ever see us in a need position going into the draft. Getting off that early in the year DT showed in two games he can play in the NFL "if" he stay healthy.

Martin weighed 310 at his pro day. He does need to get a lot stronger over the next couple of years and add muscle. Hopefully our strength and conditioning program can do a make over on his body.

PS The need to start manning up and practice outside instead of inside that bubble. It worked for Shula and gave us a huge advantage early in the year dealing with the heat. That idea behind working inside the Bubble was set up so they could continue practicing in bad weather not treat it as an air conditioned gym.
