To Dolphins fans fretting over the loss this week of running back Knowshon Moreno for the season, Damien Williams has a message.
“I won’t say it’s a big loss,” Williams said Thursday.
A few mitigating circumstances: First, Williams is an undrafted rookie, so given some NFL seasoning, he might put that more diplomatically. Also, he was referring not just to Moreno, but his confidence in the remaining backs (starter Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas and himself).
Nevertheless, Williams did not back away from his words, as you’ll soon see.
The full quote:
“I won’t say it’s a big loss just because we have other guys who can fill in what he’s been doing. But what he brings to the table as a character and how he is on the field, that’s going to be well-missed, because he’s a fired-up kind of person. He gets you pumped up to go and it’s fun to watch him run, but as far as a disappointment to a loss, it’s not really a loss. But he’s a great person. He’s going to be missed.”
Thomas said he has been asked to do more in practice this week.
“Before that I was running the scout team and everything like that,” Thomas said. “So I’m getting a few reps here and there. So of course my role is going to expand with him being out.”

I think they go to Daniel Thomas first. Before Moreno came back wasnt Thomas playing not Williams

Moreno had the ability to be a 3-down back...he ran with power, could block/protect, and could catch out of the backfield. He'll be missed.

I was looking fwd. to seeing what Moreno could do all year. I think he is a loss.

Williams needs to choose his words better.

So does Joe from his presser today. I thought he was disrespectful to an injured player.

It is a big loss, because if Miller gets hurt does anyone really feel comfortable with Williams or Thomas being the #1 back? I wouldn't.

No I don't think anybody is. Might as well call up the old Oregon kid. James? At least he is a good receiving RB

Is he starting to react to the pressure do you think?

I do not know why Joe answered the question like he did. Joe should be thankful for Moreno's efforts because he does not beat NE without him.

Hayden Fox playing the role of Williams: "It was brutal what happened to Knowshone. He was playing well. It is now next man up and when my number is called, I am ready to help the team."

"we ran to prevent fumble"

Great opportunity for Daniel Thomas to make a bigger contribution. He now has a more talented O-line to open up some holes.
