Dallas Thomas is horrible

gabe jackson would be miscast in this scheme...not the lateral athlete we need...he's playing in a power scheme in oakland for a reason

good prospect though...i'm just done with misfits

And with that logic you end up with a stiff in Dallas Thomas and a guy with a relatively narrow base in Billy Turner, who should be at LT imo learning and backing up Brandon Albert. My guy was Trai Turner and he would have been great in Miami's ZBS system or any other one for that matter. We need an OG who can move bodies in the running game and pass pro, Jackson can do that. I'm far less concerned with him being a great fir in the ZBS. We keep drafting to fit that and we're whiffing, the line is crap except for high draft picks like Pouncey and James and a big money FA in Albert. Drafting for the ZBS is for the birds, at least how we do at it.

narrow base huh...

i'd prefer guys that fit the scheme that's all...i have seen us ask enough guys to try and do things that they can't...to each his own

at least the guys fit what we are asking them to do now on the oline

there should be a serviceable right guard in the building...

Yeah, narrow base

His strengths lie in his raw athletic ability and movement skills, combined with pretty good functional strength, but better suited for OT imo. I looked at the film and that was the standout quality, watching this guy move and how light he was on his feet at LT- great athlete for his size, no doubt about it. Rare in the sense that he plays on his toes way more than most. But Trai Turner is more compact with more core base strength and just plain thicker, a pure OG who can move as the combine showed. We could have had both, easily. And if we did draft both imo Trai would be starting over Billy at OG.

i don't base my opinions or takes on players off what i read or someone elses word...so i don't really put any value in that stuff...ideally i agree he probably is better suited to play tackle but i think it's more the right side where his finish and bit of a nasty streak and movement skills would fit more the zone run game

if something happened to albert i kinda think james may be the one moved over after a week of practice...but that's just me i guess...i'd at least give him some looks

There has to be a better Right Guard out there than Dallas Thomas.. Wasn't just bad against McCoy, but awful against Atlanta too.

being bad against atls front is a bad sign for sure...jason peters isnt even playing yet...theres a ton of washed up on that front...especially the edge...corpses

I agree. And there's a thread in the draft forum you may be interested in

Outside of Matt Ryan, Julio, Roddy, Jake Matthews, Jon Asamoah, Soliai and Desmond Trufant that team is terrible.

A reference to when Bryan Cox told the NY media that Miami fullback Rob Konrad "couldnt block himself out of paper bag"??

I haven't heard how Dallas Thomas has looked at practice this week. Welcome feedback. The performance against McCoy could mentally scar him.
When Ja'Wuan James arrived he wanted the #70 jersey but his old Vol roommate and buddy wouldn't give it up. The jersey could be available sooner than Ja'Wuan expected after the b*tch-slapping in Tampa Bay. But he may need to wash the jersey, because Dallas stunk it up.

"Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him, Horatio..."

i think roddy may be showing age also i know he gets nicked up a lot now...but yeah i agree all that money on solia and not a damn thing to get you off the field with him...i think the 2nd corner alford has potential also...william moore becoming more hype than substance imo

that team will never get off the field on defense...

Yeah, narrow base

Turner definitely has a narrow base. I don't see how that can be disputed. It's one of the reasons I said we had to have higher aspirations than Billy Turner. Of course, that was when Turner was being proposed here for second round. I didn't have as many issues with third round but he certainly wouldn't have been my top choice.

The narrow base for Turner is the reason I emphasized months ago that the problem with either Dallas Thomas or Billy Turner at right guard is the certainty that both will be beaten very quickly off the snap on many plays per game. I don't see anything to change my mind.

IMO we need wide body battlers inside, guys like Brian Schwenke last year or Trai Turner this year. I completely agree that system fit is comically overblown. That's another adjuster obsession. The guys who have flopped here have simply been poor players, not merely poor system fits. When a good lineman shows up, he succeeds. Amazing how that works.

Ju'Waun James also has a narrow base, BTW. That's going to be an issue in certain matchups. But I'm not as concerned because I think he has the frame to fill out.

Regarding Dallas Thomas, although still very poor he is markedly better than last season. Last exhibition season he made ordinary backups look like McCoy.
