Dalvin Cook working out in Miami??

One dude had been dealing with a chronic shoulder issue, no? You seem to choose to ignore that factor while making statistical comparisons. Not all things were equal. Context matters.

Furthermore, while most if not all of us would prefer that the Dolphins don’t drastically overpay for any players, what difference does it make to you or anyone else IF they can find a way to make it all workout under the cap?

If the Dolphins are confident Cook’s shoulder is no longer an issue and that he’s going to be healthy — are you or anyone else really going to argue that he’s not significantly better than either Mostert or Wilson? Doubtful.

I cannot handle another “bad shoulder” costing us a Super Bowl. Sign Cook.

If this team succeeds, we can just do what the Eagles did and use void years to spread out the contracts for low cap hit. Is it smart? No, but we can keep the vast majority of the team together if need be.
the difference is we've been trading away high picks to get some of these players with big contracts.......the Eagles had more picks this year than we had the last two years combined .....we got nothing from our 2022 draft so far....we'll see about 2023 which "should" be much better......we're already missing picks in 2024 as well so that's the main concern to me......losing some players is ok when you have your picks to start replacing some of those players.

Dalvin Cook has been one of the most talked about running backs this offseason as it relates to the Miami Dolphins but now a new rumor could see it all go away.

There is a growing speculation that Cook may be interested in taking a pay cut and remain with the Vikings. The theory is that Cook could take a pay cut and still make more than what the market seems to be dictating. That includes the Dolphins.

The information is far from concrete but channel 5's Darren Wolfson at KSTP Minneapolis has apparently reported that a source he has is saying Cook may be changing his mind.

Not landing Dalvin Cook wouldn't be the end of the world and there are no guarantees that the Dolphins actually have interest after bringing back their RBs from last season and drafting one in April. Cook is a luxury that could make Miami better but there is no guarantee.

Most still believe that Cook will be released on June 1st because the Vikings have made moves both financially and with the roster at the running back position and there may not be a need or want for Cook to remain. Regardless, if Cook is willing to take a pay cut that could be enough to give the Vikings pause in releasing him.

For now, there is speculation and some smoke and Cook may very well remain in the NFC North and if that happens, the Dolphins are going to be just fine.

Maybe, but n reality..... how many years did he provide that production in Miami? 2-3 years?

That would be similar to what would be expected of Cook.

If we get 2- 3 years of similar production from Cook, per his norm.... then wouldn't it be worth it?

I mean it's not like anyone is expecting Cook to sign a 5-7 year deal.

But if we sign Cook, even to a higher deal 9+million a year, for 3 years with an out on the 3rd year etc....

Why would that be a bad thing if he brings that production along for the 2 years.

That signing wouldn't force us to get rid of anyone important, nor would it force us to get rid of anyone most likely we were getting rid of anyway ( think guys like Howard)

So his cap number this year and next, even if we traded for him, IMO won't force Miami to unnecessarily cut anyone of importance.

Sure, we may not be able to sign new guys. We might also have to wait on extensions for others. But other contracts that may have been extended next year, can hold off until his salary is off the books ( think Tua).

We're talking about 2 years here, not a 5 year investment.

So, maybe Fever will school me and show me the error of my ways lol.
But a 2 year investment doesn't worry me, cap wise with the options we have and players most likely coming off the books

Again. Grier did a great job structuring contracts to alleviate the concern. In years we may have cap concerns ( next year) we have an increasing cap as well as huge salaries that can be shed with minimal cap ramifications. Look at our higher capped players. Then look when they can be cut with minimal cap damage. These players like Armstead, Howard etc. Are most likely not expected to be here 4 years from now. That's why the 3 year deals mixed well with the 4+ year contracts
I think we would’ve gotten a few more years out of Ricky if Pornstash didn’t run him into the ground

Pornstache was the archetype of a 1980s jock sniffing wannabe.

Mr Vernon is what I think of :

Damn he ruined us - we had a good team….

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm sick of worrying about and waiting for 'next year'. We haven't been this equipped to win a Superbowl in ages, so for us not to go all in this year because we're worried about future years is just stupid. I want to win THIS YEAR and we'll worry about next year and the years after when they get here.

The team pays a team of eggheads a lot of money to figure this stuff out, and with the salary cap going up every year, I'm not worried. Not even a little bit.

Let's win this year before our window closes. Bring in Cook.

I believe Ricky actually commented on that very point a few years ago.

I remember the game with Buffalo where he had over 40 carries and he was the entirety of the offense. Dumbest offense I had ever seen

Ricky didn't want to be the next Earl Campbell in a wheelchair, and I don't blame him in the least.

They don’t think he’s worth the cap yet they have nothing behind him. We think he’s worth the cap hit with an already crowded and talented group of RBs?

It doesn’t appear anyone is willing to trade for him.

Actually, there are a lot of rumors of trades but when everyone knows he might be cut June 1st, kind of hard to pull off a deal

This is the correct mindset (and anyway, Cook doesn’t jeopardize our future).

We haven’t won a playoff game in 20 years. It’s time to win. People are worrying about keeping together a core that hasn’t won anything yet. Win first, then worry about how to keep it together.

Riddled? He had a shoulder injury. Quit with the hyperbole.

Once again you are making statement that are not true. He also has had hamstring, thigh and ankle issues and he also had surgery for a grade 3 ACL tear. He is also listed as a 'Very High Risk' for injury with a 94% chance of missing time for an injury, or 15% chance per game. His over/under on missed games this year is 3.5. So now, do we believe true facts? Or do you just want to throw stuff out there and post 50 times a day to feel good about yourself?

True analytical analysis? I like it.

OK, so who is the player Miami can get, right now that would help this team to a greater degree then Cook?

Cook won't effect our ability to extend Wilkins.

I also am not a fan of passing on Cook or any quality player because a different player may become available at a later date.

So right now... Who's the player who helps this team to a greater degree?

I am a big believer in Vegas odds, statistics and analysis. Factoring in the injury potential, the position that would move the needle the most would be tackle. We all love Armstead, but he is listed as 'Very High Risk' of injury (same as Cook) and his over/under is to miss 4 games this season. And let's face it, Jackson is not looking good.

Some more truth, I am actually a Cook fan, I love the player. Been to a handful of Minneapolis home games the past few years. Dude is a stud. But at 28 and with his injury risk, it's not the play I would make. Hey I can admit, I've been wrong before, but I won't attack someone for their opinion. Especially when they back it up with facts.

As far as exact player, there are currently a few players available that would move the needle, more importantly though as I said in an earlier post, we had no idea Hill would be available just a couple of days before we got him. It's up to the organization to communicate, as I believe they will, and find that tackle.

I see.

But who are those players that would move the needle more then Cook?

I don't see 1 player, currently available that would move that needle farther then Cook.

Miami already got the best tackle available in FA.

So I'm curious who these few players are. Heck, I might agree with you, but I don't know who you are thinking or talking about.

Also I would like to point out.

Miami only had 3.5 million in cap space when they traded for Hill.

That didn't keep them from acquiring him.

Just like signing Cook to even a 10 million a year contract wouldn't keep Miami from being able to sign someone who may become available later

Grier said it best. When Hill became available, he made it happen.

Cook is not Hill. But he is in that upper echelon.

You don't not sign Cook because you wanna see if a quality linemen is released or cut later.

You get the guy that improves your team
