Question is what is the best season a QB has had in NFL history?? In my opinion it is Dan Marino's 1984 season. 108 passer rating, 48 tds, 5084 yards, 17 ints. Heres why I think so.

Petyon and Brady have since threw for 49, and 50 tds, and some may argue their seasons reign supirior because of Peyton/Brady's Higher TDs, lower number of INT and higher passer rating. But I think the fact that Dan threw for 5084 yards, puts his '84 season above the other two. 5084 yards ppl!!! This is a number that has stood for almost a Quarter Century!! Truth is, all of Dan's numbers are right their in the record books with big bullseys on them. Just ask Brett Favre, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Coincidence Peyton passes Dan's single season TD mark by one??? Then is pulled from the game one play later?? How about Tom Brady this past season passing Peyton's mark by exactly one?? And how about Favre?? He comes back this past season, when everyone figured the Packers were going to suck, breaks all Dan's career passing records. Then, despite finding out the Packers were now superbowl contenders, decides to retire??? And I am suppose to believe this is coinincidence?? I think not. Point is, many of Dan's records are being passed because every good QB strives to be the best, but despite having a bullseye on it, 5084 yards still stands. Making Dan Marino's '84 season the best season a QB has ever had.

Now that I stated my opinion Id like to ask one more related question. Unfortunately, I wasnt alive in '84 so I wasnt around for the buzz and hype that I expirenced last season with Brady or a few seasons ago with Peyton. But for those who were around what was it like?? How awesome was it to wake up every sunday knowing Dan was going to destroy the opposing Defense???

Another interesting tidbit. Of those season none of them ended in superbowl victorys. Peyton lost in the AFC championship game, while Dan, and Brady lost in the Superbowl.

I know I have a lot of homerism in me, but in all honesty.... he was the best QB I have ever seen.
No one threw the ball better than him.

yes,Dan still owns the most yards passing in a season, and i don't think that'll be broken anytime soon, yes we all know the most TDs in a season was broken by both Peyton&Brady, and Favre has broken the rest of Marinos records. i also think that Marino's the best QB of all time, but maybe that's cause i'm a Fins fan,or it could be that his records stood for a number of years before all but one was broken. i just hate that he never again went back to another SB after the 84 season.

I would put Brady's right there w/ Marino. Marino did lose to a much better team in the SB but Brady did lead the Pats to 18 wins last year. it's a very close call.

What i want to see being not watched the 84 season is how many bad weather game was part of it. In 04 when peyton did it he played the final 5 games in the dome which was a good deal for him.Brady on the other had 2 Ice rain games and sleet games, baltimore game was very windy, also 1 or 2 were very windy too.I think i read that out of the 16 games 6 were below 32 degrees game start temp.

so i cannot compare only 04 and 08 season as i saw both. Manning had more dome games obviously and also did not have any bad weather game either.

Correction, the cameras led them to 18 wins

In my mind there is no question it's Marino's 1984 season. He SHATTERED the passing records. He set a yardage record that will probably never be broken, a TD record that would have never been broken had the NFL not changed the rules to make it a more scoring friendly league, and he led his team to the Super Bowl where they lost to the team of the 80's.

Bingo!!! 1984 Dan,playing with todays rules....55 tds.
5600 yds.

Marino because of the era that he played in. If he played with the rules the way that they are now, his '84 numbers would have been even better.

The problem is guys from previous eras could say the same thing, it was alot easier on QBs in the 80s than it was in the 50s-70s. In 1959 Unitas had 32 Pass TDs, the #1 guy only had 20(63% of 32) while in '84 Marino had 48 but the 2nd place guy had 32(67% of Marino's #).

And although the rules have been changed in favor of offense let's not forget the caliber of athlete is so much better today, players are bigger, faster and stronger. It's hard to compare guys of different eras, the way I like to do it is compare how those players did against their own eras and Unitas' '59 appears more impressive than Marino's '84(at least in terms of TDs).

I dont know if the players now a days are tougher. Ill agree that they are bigger, speedier, more athletic. Back in the day players would lose teeth, break bones, lacerate their face and still come in and play...

Remember Mark Bavaro, he broke his jaw and still didnt miss 1 game, the players now a days would be crying for their mommies if they broke their jaw, not to mention back in the day, they didnt have the medicine they have now so the injuries were probably much more painful back then
