Does winning superbowls generally make you a great QB???? Look at Marino he holds records still for career passing yrds and touchdowns in a single season but never got his ring. it sucks to see that happen to a living legend(my opinon).
..........Thoughts in comparison...........
Marino vs Elway??
Marino vs Young??
Marino vs Aikman??

Greatest PASSER of all time.

do they grade the great RB's by rings? do they grade the greatest O linemen, cornerbacks, linebackers by rings?

Charles Haley is the best football player in NFL history. He has 5 rings so he must be.

That is the kind of logic I see from the guys who argue that rings are everything.

I think you might be looking in the wrong place for objective answers here, but I consider Dan to be a greater QB than Elway because it was basically just due to good fortune (named Davis) on Elway's part that he didn't end up in the same boat as Marino.

I think it is really tough to make an argument putting Marino ahead of guys like Aikman and Young from a total QB perspective. It is easy to do if you take the approach somebody else did and look at the passing skills alone, but it is hard for Dan not to lose some luster due to how the playoffs worked out for him.

marino is the greatest qb to play the game bar none ... he never had a running back and never had a defense , everyone knew they had to stop marino and no one could . put marino on a team like the skins of the mid 80's or the 49er's & he would have had more super bowl rings than anyone who ever played the game . super bowls are won by teams not individules or else doug williams , trent dilfer , mark rypen , and so many more who won wouldn't have won ...marino the greatest qb of all time !!!!

Marino was the greatest qb ever.... it's that simple. Someone will pass him one day, but as it stands now, and hopefully for a while, greatest qb of all time.

Sanders is not the best RB of all time imo. Anyway, rings got nothing to do with who's the best imo. Dan is the best ever.

Ozzy rules!!

every team that has ever won a super bowl, would still win it with marino at qb and probably most would look better doing it. every qb that ever won a superbowl would not win it with any dolphin team marino ever played for and we would have a few more losing seasons as well.

What about Marino vs. Montana?

is that a joke? Montana was a good reader, but that was it. He had a noodle arm, he got the job done, but he's not on Marino's level. Marino was the best passer ever, Aikman is up there as well, then when you put the total package together, you have Aikman, Marino, Montana, etc. in a batch of great QB's, but Dan was the best all around. He wasn't the best scrammbler, but he more than made up for it with his great arm, excellent reads, awesome accuracy, etc. A true leader, the ONLY thing he lacked was scrammbling skills, but you won't find a scrammbler that's near any of the top QB's in the game. It's A-typical to find a passer AND a rushing Qb.

I disagree with your assessment of Montana, while he did not have the best armstrength his system did not call for deep passes, just like Marino's system (thankfully) did not call for scrambling (except that game in '84 vs the Bears when he rolled out a few times). Montana was a leader and also had an amazing ability to read coverages and make the right decisions. Given his record -which granted had a lot to do with his team and coach, though that team would be v. different had Montana not been QB -no discussion of the greatest QB's to play the game is complete without mentioning Montana. He had a knack for winning

its hard for me to argue because everytime i pull the marino is the best ever they pull the "does he have a ring?" yea thats what i thought.... i just stay quite....

bottom line, Marino had no rb and no defense

montana had ronnie lott, etc

for some reason rb's and receivers are not judged by how many rings they have but most anti-dolfans judge marino because of a ring
