Cornerback Travis Daniels has been out since August 2 with an ankle sprain, and coach Nick Saban admitted Tuesday that he's worried about his projected starter. "He's making progress. He had a pretty significant sprain," Saban told the Miami Herald. Daniels' agent told the Herald X-rays and an MRI exam on his client were negative, and that he had been diagnosed with a Grade 2 sprain.

Our View
A more severe Grade 3 sprain can take up to eight weeks to heal, and Daniels has already been out more than two weeks with his injury. The Dolphins are seriously depleted in the secondary, with Eddie Jackson suffering from a pulled abdominal muscle, Michael Lehan undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last week, and veteran Will Poole being released. The Fish were torched for several long touchdowns against the Jaguars in the preseason opener and could be in trouble if Daniels can't get back on the field soon.

You see why lazy journalism is a problem?

If you watch yesterday's press conference, at no time does Nick describe the injury as significant currently. He says something to the effect of, 'Travis had a pretty significant sprain...". However, if you want to really see the guy's progress, he has gone from crutches and a walking boot to riding the stationary bike at practice. The injury is no worse than originally diagnosed, and if anything, Travis' condition has improved. This writer made a big deal about Saban changing his wording, when really all Coach was saying was that there are many degrees of sprains, all of which have different recovery times. In this case, Travis is improving steadily.

BUT NOWHERE DID HE IMPLY THE INJURY IS ANY WORSE. The South Florida media is just mad at Saban for hiding injuries, thus they try and make him look bad with ridiculous comments like this. Pathetic. Go listen to the comments for yourself if you want.

I see it as he is out of his crutches and on the bike, which means he is working his way back to the third preseason game when we put best preseason effort into the game.

Exactly. It is not as if all of a sudden the diagnosis has changed.
