For those of you interested in scouting QBs that will be available this upcoming draft:

UAB takes on Memphis today at 7:30 ET on ESPN2. UAB QB Darrel Hackney is probably projected somewhere in rounds 2-4. He is small at 6-1, but he has pretty much everything else you look for in a QB.;)

Yep, Hackney has been flying really low under the radar. Not sure if it is because of a bad season, because I have not been following him, or if it is just because UAB isn't a big known school.

hoping memphis can pull out a win. Will help UCF out even more. Can you guys believe it, from an 0-11 season last year to competing for a bowl spot this year tied for first in C-USA. Knock on wood, but hopefully UCF can end up playing a bowl in either Lousiana, Hawaii, or Tennessee.

UAB doesn't play on national t.v. much and Hackney doesn't have much talented players around him so that's probably why he's flying under the radar. But the people that have watched him play know he's good. I saw him play one time last year and he was awesome. I remember he had a good arm, accuracy (especially on the deep balls), and he was surprisingly mobile for a kinda overweight QB. he weighs about 235-240 but he's only about 6'1. His height is my only concern with him but besides that I know he's a good QB, he would definately be an upgrade over Gus, and we might not even need to use a day 1 draft pick to get him.

I love Hackney as a later pick. In fact, given my frustration with this years draft class I think he would be awesome value in the later rounds.

Yea, this years draft class is terrible. I expect atleast one junior (quinn, young, stanton, etc.) to take advantage of that and get drafted higher than they should.

It's so unfair really. Next years draft class looks so exciting and talented, this one is just plain old boring. Apart from Leinart, there aren't many QBs I like. Hackney and Croyle are the two I like at the moment. Hopefully some of them will impress us at a workout.

If Quinn comes out (unlikely) or Vick comes out (unlikely) I'd take either one in a heartbeat.

I say we can nab him in round 2 or 3, hes undersized so he may drop farther down though.

Yeah, Hackney looks and plays bigger than 6'1". In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he measures bigger than that at the combine. I don't think his height is a problem, since he has a high release. He'll definitely need to lose 15-20 lbs. though.

Even so, he's the 2nd best QB in the draft.

for seniors....i dont think he is better than Leinart, Young, Quinn and im sure there is so many more

Is he mobile? If so, is he a pass first guy, using the run as a last option?

wow, 2nd best QB is a bold statement.

i agree about your first paragraph. the only things that concern me about him is his first 3 seasons he wasnt as accurate as u would like, and he hasnt really played agaisnt top competition, although he played extremely well agaisnt Tennesse. other than that, nothing. and Tenn. isnt a top 25 team as of now
