If Green is servicable for two years, the 5th rounder would be more justifiable. Waiting for Green to be released would have cost us valuable time for him to be acclimated to the offense. So those who were willing to wait until the beginning of preseason were not thinking. (Thats how long KC could have held out)

As much as I think we are going to lose Daunte, I cant say I am happy about the timing, he should restructure and stay in Miami for another year. Competition is very healthy for the position. That would mean Cleo gets the boot. Or goes on the practice squad at a huge price.

Its hard to beleive that we will be able to trade DC. We would have to hold him just like KC did until someone bites. If so, it would be nice to get that 5th rounder back from Jags, Oak, or even GreenBay. Some other teams that could use some depth is Chicago, Baltimore, maybe even Carolina.

This way DC could compensate for the lost pick.

Another way is if we hold on to DC even if it means paying the big bucks, just in case Green goes down within the first half of the season, DC would be ready to go. Or at least have the time to heal.

Either way Green and Culpepper could be used to balence the books IMO. We just cant have too much money on the bench.

Just a though. Id like to hear what you guys think.

I honestly think Beck needs a full year to go at it. Maybe 2.

i doubt we are going to be able to trade c pep for a fith round pick..... reason is, noone has seen culpepper worth a s*** since 04, so i think we will end up releasing him. Happy about green though, remember 05 with frerotte? 9-7 was the result. and green is like nine times better. so we are winning the superbowl now. woooooo! go phins

Does that mean we will go 81-63

If an injured Green is worth a 5th, so is an injured Culpepper.

I've been saying we should keep both Green and C-Pep. There both still unproven. Let's not forget Green was also out last year. C-pep needs to restructure his contract, and remain with the Dolphins. He might as well. Because, there isn't a team on the planet that's going to pay him his current salary.

It all comes down to math. If CPEP is willing to restructure, we can work it out. This also includes the tough decision of releasing a healthy Cleo.
Green is the stop gap for Beck. CPEP is the insurance for both of them. As much as I like Cleo, he cant assure the same.

While I would hope that Culpepper would restructure, I don't see it. But maybe since he's been out so long he just might. Who knows.
But I'm sure that the Dolphins are going to shop him around and see whats out there.
So my question is, what do we want for him? A QB that hasn't played in basically 2 seasons, his knee isn't the best and could go boink at any time. I'd ask for a conditional 5th. Unless he can come into preseason with the team and play some really progressive plays, and show everyone he's back.
But then again, he'll probably have to restructure before then to make it that far.
Alas, I'm not a GM and I can merely speculate.

I feel the same way buddy, all we can do is hope that Randy and Cam are trying to make the best out of it. This is obviously just begun to play out.

It seems, that a lot of people are game with keeping CPEP. I do think he has at least earned a chance to compete before we cut him.

I like the trade. Green is healthy and knows the systems. He's a very good QB overall, with no glaring weakness. DC is good with a weakness in reading defenses. If Green starts, DC will want released or traded.

I for one am really excited about it this weekend's minicamp. Reports make it sound as if CPep will be on the field and not on the bike, along side Green. I'm sure there will be a lot of blown out of proportion first impressions of both of them, but it will be fun nonetheless to see them in action. by the way, i thought i read somewhere that Green might not be medically cleared to play yet if his injury is still lingering? Don't know if there's any truth to that whatsoever but it would be pretty ironic if CPep got to practice and Green had to ride the bike

According to John Clayton, Green looked sharp during KC's Mini Camp!

If any of you saw the NFL Network Inside Minicamp with the Chiefs Green looked great!
