very last question of saban's day after PC today -

reporter: coach, in reguard to daunte, what specifically are you looking at? when will you know that he's back?

saban:when he doesn't limp at all when he's playing, and he can move laterally and quickly. not just in straight ahead running but in lateral movements and in quick explosive movements. that's what we'll be looking for.

does anyone else see daunte being able to do that this season? i don't. saban does mention daunte and their long term relationship earlier in the presser. i think right now we're 1-4 and saban realizes this season is all but over. now it's time to truly rehabilitate daunte and get him ready to go next year. no reason to run him out there on a 1-4, 2-6, 4-12 no hope team and risk injury.

I think he will miss the rest of the season and Joey will lead us to a winning record.

He'll come back by season's end unless Joey's play is even worse....although having a crappy oline is still not benefitting either one of them!

If joey is playing good and winning, i'd have to think so ( shouldn't fix something that isnt broke) but who knows if joey can keep up his good play(he played pretty good despite the int's) with this O-Line.

That crappy o-line gave up one sack yesterday with Harrington as the qb.

Too bad Saban didn't do this earlier.
Our season might not have been over.

Daunte's career as a starter is OVER. He sucked last year before he got hurt and it's continuing into this season. Saban's just using that injury crap as an excuse. Remember? His shoulder was the reason he wouldn't start, now no one's even talking about his shoulder, all of a sudden it's his knee.
Suckpepper is permanent 2nd string which he should be.

Aww come on...you don't actually think our oline is playing good, do you? LJ Shelton has been lousy....they may have improved and will continue to and hopefully be in sync like they were at the end of last year, but if our line played better, RB would be racking up more yardage too!

i wouldnt go to that extreme. daunte is much better than joey at this point in their careers. however, i definitely would not want to rush daunte if his knee isnt quite right. i think he'll be ready by the end of the season, but it depends on our playoff hopes at that time if he will actually play or not

Oh, PLEASE. If he's done for the season, then why is he still going to be getting reps in practice?

I'm glad Saban pulled Cullpepper. I think it is clear that Culpepper rushed his return back to the NFL. Before anyone goes crazy on Culpepper, give him a chance once he has had enough time to recover from the knee.

Joey and the offense should only get better. It would be very hard to get worse than what they did in the first 4 games. They already looked a bit better last week against a decent Patriots team.

I feel more confident in the team winning with Harrington in at QB. Will he start the rest of the season? I think there is a good chance of that, especially if the Dolphins start winning.

Culpepper will get more comfortable as a Dolphin and stronger physically on the sidelines. He may return this season. But if not, I think the Culpepper we all expected to see will show up in 2007.

if and this is a big if joey is able to lead the team to a 10-6 record or 9-7 would you have joey as #1 next year and get rid of daunte?
i dont think daunte can ever get back to his old mobility and because of that it will show how suspect his decision making is
