Let’s be honest. If Adam Gase wanted a new office, the Miami Dolphins would ask how big. If he wanted to helicopter to work, they’d build a pad outside his front door.

What Gase wanted after his opening, winning season was his unsigned players back. And so most were brought back this past week. They returned happy and fulfilled and, above all, rich in a manner similar Dolphins players haven’t been in recent years.

This is Gase’s team now. He proved his on-field ideas work. And this off-field idea shows how he wants this team built. Everyone knows the traditional, three-step blueprint to win in the NFL:

1. Put a good system in place.

2. Find players to fit that system.

3. Keep them together.

To that, you can add a fourth, interesting step in the modern NFL, at least as Gase sees it.

4. Follow me, and I’ll get you paid.

An interesting column from the lone voice of sanity within the SS

"Good system"

Offense I agree, but defense? Ehh.

I did remember reading something the other day about Gase and Joeseph clashed about defense scheme, Burke was hired so Gase can have a bigger influence on how the defense is ran.

I'm still excited.

Most girls high School teams have better overall talent than our D did last year, I have no clue is the defensive system is good or bad.

I wonder if the Gase - Joseph defense clashing had anything to do with Gase being a bit of a ****y offensive specialists telling Vance about all the plays he could run on our d?

I could easily see that bugging an offensive coach. But I have no clue what Vance could say except I need better players, to stop what Gase can come up with

From my perspective (as an ignorant fan who knows nothing about the technical Xs and 0s of the game), the defense under Joseph looked no different than the defense under Coyle. The results were basically the same; both groups were terrible against the run, (mostly) poor tacklers, unable to cover the middle of the field consistently/effectively, and had a bad habit of playing the CBs so far off of the WRs that opponents were easily able to march right down the field converting first down after first down.

Miami had a decent defense until Philbin and Coyle took charge, and ever since then it's been bad. Under first Coyle and then Joseph various players come and go, but the overall schemes seem similar and are pathetically ineffective. EVERYTHING about the defense was better before Philbin was hired and ruined the team. I say it's time to go back to the pre-Philbin/Coyle defensive schemes. Am I the only one who thinks this?

Biggest issue on defense was lack of talent.

Yeah, that is the sign of a bad linebacking core, which we have had now for more than 2 different defensive systems and coaches and it has been the thing that both systems have had in common. Think about it... this team has hit on almost all areas other than linebackers for the last decade at least.

The last good linebacker we had was Karlos Dansby and before that Zach Thomas and that is it... at no point has this team had at least 2 good linebackers. This coming year with Timmons and Kiko is already slated to be the best combo of linebackers we have fielded in a long time, and we hopefully still have 1 or a couple more guys we could draft or sign.

I agree with your post, but having two good LB and 10 special team LB not going to cut it

The more I read about gase the more I love the fact that he is our coach.seems like the real deal

Interesting. So the free agency strategy we employed was Gase's idea?

This means that he gets the blame if these moves backfire, correct?

Dead on the money. I doubt their is credibility of this actually happening (not bashing the op) as the amazing gase has NEVER coached defense. I don't want his yap ànywhere near the defense. The players during Jimmy Johnson said Jimmy spent most of his time in the defensive room and the offensive players said it was a rare, rare occasion he stopped by the o-room and that was usually because he was looking for someone.

I hope gase follows suit and put his input where it will do some good and stick to the offense.

The best thing about Adam Gase? It is very clear that he has won the battle within the organisation and that both Grier and Tannebaum know who their master is.

Maybe one day he will have a spring clean...

Agreed but I totally expect these guys to try to bring in at least 2 more starting quality linebackers, someone in the draft and hopefully another free agent.
