Texans | Carr Could Become Free Agent after 2005 Season
Fri, 14 Oct 2005 17:18:14 -0700

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports Houston Texans QB David Carr has reached sufficient performance records to void the final three years, which would make him eligible for unrestricted free agency after the 2005 season. The team has until the final game of the 2005 season to execute a buy-back clause in his contract that would allow the team to retain him.

I can already see it now. The Texans let Carr become a FA and they draft Matt Leinart with the #1 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. They will have a new HC and they will be a new team. Then Davis Carr will go somewhere like to the Cards.

Its not Carrs fault. Their O line dose not protect him, that o would make Peyton Manning look bad. if Leinart gose to Houston then his carrear might be like Carrs if they dont improve their O line

They're on pace to break their own single season sacks given up record.

Am I the only one who thinks we should take a run at him if the price is right. He's shown promise, has the talent but is in an awful situation. We're going to be in great position to sign big name players, so why not give him a look?

not only everything yall have said so far but i feel he'd be relatively cheap because his career hasn't exactly been top notch up until this point

no youre not;)
i think he would be a huge pickup for us he was never given a chance to show what he is capable of doing.....being a fresno st. fan i followed him very closley and im convinced this guy has superstar ability ,but hes never had the chance to show it.....i think he could be great here we may not have the best line ,but certainly we dont have one nearly as bad 27sacks through 5games on pace for 100+..weve given up what 5 all year....so with a better oline....better receivers...better running backs...superstar te....and a damn good defense i think he will be a monster.....our situation reminds me a little of when he was at fresno st. a good defense, good receiving group including his favorite target a speedster great hands wr(chambers)in bernard berrian(im dissapointed in him so far) a good pass blocking line and big strong versatile back in paris gaines(ronnie)....and here he would get a te like randy mack wich hes never really had....i think he would be very successful..

thats just my 2cents ive seen alot of him ,but i am a fresno st. fan so im a little biased

regardless of the protection in front of him, he has pretty poor field vision. doesn't really matter how good your blocking is there

I wouldn't mind bringing him in and letting him battle for the starting spot for the right price.

dosent really help when the defense is in your grill as soon as you touch the ball...and i havent seen alot of him recently ,but in college he had very good vision...i hope he gets an oppurtunity to show ppl what he can do cause there is no doubt in my mind that he is capable of being a elite nfl qb.....he is the nicest person you could ever meet and as tough as they come..

sign him up

Huh?

How do you know how good the guy's vision is when he is getting his *** kicked every down?

I'd take David Carr is a second if he was available. He has a great arm and can make plays. He had a pretty good year in '04. He is getting beat up this year though.

If the Texans cut ties with him we won't be the only team looking at him...I just hope we are the team that gets him...

He could be a FA but I read somewhere a statment by the owner about how Carr is the future of the franchis and that he will be kept and paid the roster bonus that he is due if they keep him. However if they do end up at the top of the draft with a new HC/GM who knows.

in college and when he has had time in the NFL, he's never displayed the field vision you want in a QB. blame tedford's ultra-easy QB-friendly coaching

Believe what you will...

In his third year (usually the year when young Q.B.'s have to show they are ready) he was a 61% passer, 3500 + yards, 16 TD's and he had an 83.5 rating...not bad numbers in my opinion.

not true dude....well the college part i havent seen enough of him in the pros to make a difinitive statment....in college he had very good vision....when he has time he is dead on and rarely makes mistakes..problem is he doesnt get any time
