The problem with that Bess fumble is once the Jets scored a TD their confidence soared on offense. It's like the clamp had been broken.
I didn't realize how that works until I moved to Las Vegas and started evaluating situations in regard to outcomes. It doesn't matter if the margin stayed the same from 17-6 to 24-13, after Bess's fumble then Ginn's second return. The Jets were in far superior mindset at 24-13 than 17-6. They knew they could score, and we were damn near burned at the end. It would have been devastating to lose a game after two 100+ yard kickoff returns plus a fumble return TD.
Bess gets plenty of praise on this board but he's the type of player who needs to be replaced, if the aspirations are high. I look at it from a standpoint as a Canes fan. That team has a half dozen skill position guys who are superior to Davone Bess. It saved Miami's butt yesterday against Wake Forest, when the receivers Aldarius Johnson and Travis Benjamin made big plays in the final two minutes to bail out the game after being completely outplayed. In many ways the Dolphins and Canes are opposites, the Dolphins far more rugged but the Canes with superior weaponry. When I step back and look at the Dolphin receivers piece by piece, it's a joke. There's no chance I would trade even up for the Canes receivers, that's for sure.
