Anyone who's seen the 5'10" 190 lb Bess play care to compare or contrast with a certain 5'10" 194 lb WR by the name of McDuffie?

theres a whole thread devoted to bess..come on now

My god, he's been on the team for two weeks and half the people on here are ready to anoint this guy our savior. He went undrafted. Every team passed on him. Multiple times. The Davone Bess threads need to stop until, at the very least, he impresses during the preseason. Hell, he might not even make the team. I can understand being mildly excited about adding him, but I think comparing him to one of the greatest dolphin wr's ever is just a little premature. Enough with the Bess threads already.

i'd wager that if his name was timmy mcbessie and he didnt have dreads..... there would be ZERO hype on this guy ...... jk

you guys hype Bess..... i've got Foster covered.... not like he CAN be covered tho.

Remember last year (or was it the year before...all the crappy seasons are blending together) when everyone was pulling for a certain Ron Mexico Jr.?

what ever happened to marcus? last i herd he owned a pet grooming place

No ****. Im almost starting to not like the guy. I mean wtf. Can the guy at least get past the first cuts before there are 100 threads on here about him. You would think we picked up the best player available in the whole draft without even drafting him. The guy might turn into a gem. But, its really not very likely at all. Lets see him play in some games some, you know.....make the team, before we start obsessing about him. Is that such a bad idea?

You shouldnt have to say jk, because its probably true. Same reason I was worried that "L-train" Lionel Dotson would get overblown on here before even taking a snap. Last year "Juggernaught" ran threw some cardboard and had that nickname and he was the best FB in the league on FH.

Timmy McBessie  Classic.

you cant compare him to McDuffie untill he acually plays a game for the team he has only been in 3 practices

Good lord, guys. Calm down. I think what Filennium meant was that he has some of the same qualities as McDuff. About the same height and weight. Not blazing fast. Good hands. Good route runner. He never said that Bess was in O.J.'s league. But there are some similarities.

Why is it ok to hype a certain OL or a QB that we just drafted but it's not ok to hype up a WR. Your basing both off of potential and how they performed in college.

Bess was the best receiver in that pass happy offense. Does that mean he can be that good in the NFL? No. But anyone who watched him play a single down of football, understand why so many are "hyping" him up.

Bess should make this team. Just like Jake Long should be a Pro Bowl tackle.

Will either of them happen? NONE OF US KNOW!

I don't mind he Bess talk. Generally I'm not big on "the longshot" but frankly I think the Bess angle is very interesting, why?

(1) A young QB and young WR bond early and lean on each other to help more often than vets would. Considering this, we have two young QB's and really just a few capable WR's. We suspect Henne will start later this year (most do) and I would say Henne will get more time working with Bess with the 2nd stringers (or less). Even if this weren't the case we know the WR position is about as wide open as possible. I wouldn't bet against or for anything right now.

(2) I like Bess's resume, I like it more than Ginn's. Bess looks like he was the go to guy (which Ginn really wasn't) on his team and Bess put up impressive receiving numbers. Small school WR's don't make me blink abit. I will avoid most positions from small schools BUT a WR. Take a minute and look over some of the greatest WR in history, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, T.O, Clayton, etc, etc, etc...I could go on for hours, all are small school WR's.

(3) Parcells will see to it ALL his guys have a chance to prove themselves. He looks even more the genius if his guy is an undrafted guy who looks better than the previous guys 1st round pick.

I don't see any Dolphin WR doing "great" but I do think Parcells will do his best to establish a #1 guy this year. I really doubt he wants to be expected to draft one early next year.

Just my opinion but I'm in a 20 team fantasy league and if Bess is still around I plan on drafting him late, means little in a 20 team league but it's a risk that I feel a can't lose.

I'm not a "FINaticle" Bess fan but I do think cheering for him is a little more enjoyable and curious than the average undrafted FA.

How's about papa joe paterno who said that mcduffie was the greatest football player he ever coached... sorry the link predates..., internet...

it didn't hurt that oj played with marino..., still... he always caught the ball...

we all know how mcduffie became very involved on third down short and long... one of the best miami wrs on third down..., everyone knew the ball was going his way and he made the catch and squeaked out the 3rd down...

bess has a ways to go..., he hasn't made the team..., not saying he won't but it's not like theres a lot in front of him...

It's because the expectation for a udfa is they won't make the team. That's the most likely scenario for any UDFA. Occationally they make an impact but to expect it from an UDFA is setting yourself up for disappointment.

He came from a pass happy offense were he never had to beat coverage. His job was to run to a space. He has good hands, but he is slow. I guaranty this guy doesn't make the team. His skills don't translate to NFL production. He is an UDFA for a reason!
