Interesting article by Michelle Kaufman of the Herald.

“Dawn is a very well-respected executive in the league,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told the Miami Herald on Friday. “She has terrific experience, a deep understanding of salary-cap management and collective-bargaining negotiations, and a commitment to the NFL and [the] team she works for that is uncompromised.”

She has taken on more responsibilities of late, helping to guide the team through the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin bullying scandal, and often prepares Philbin before media conferences, displaying her lawyerly protective nature.

But Aponte, who declined to be interviewed for this story, confided recently to people close to the Dolphins that any characterizations of her as a calculating power-hungry corporate climber are unjustified. She said she has no interest in the general manager job and does not want to be a talent evaluator. Ross insists the new GM will report to him, and yet there are those around the league who think Aponte’s power and influence would come into play.
“I have never seen Dawn looking out for selfish interests,” Goodell said. “She doesn’t overreach. She understands her skill set and what she should leave to others.”

haha I just posted this in the "Ross And Aponte Are Both Learning A Painful Lesson" thread. didn't see your thread.

Anyways, I know she gets a bad rap around these parts, but I actually believe once we get the new GM in she's going to continue to be a big asset to this team

Yeah , I don't think she warrants the attention she gets here.

I think every Dawn I have known in my life was Dawn Marie. What's the deal with that?

This is simple if I am Ross…one, if she is stopping a prized GM from coming here, she is fired. If I really like her, the she answers to the GM and works for him. Done.

No, not at all. It's really unbelievable for how much hate she gets

So as a GM, someone comes to you and says: we have a person (albeit a woman) to take care of finances and other distractions. Why is that stopping "most" gm's? This should be such a nonissue it's crazy

Her evil reputation is all a figment of your imagination.

If she has been managing our salary cap, just shake her hand and say "thank you" and move on. Our salary cap is in great shape!

She's done a good job managing the cap but at this point it's obvious she's hurting the organization. The fact that we even have these stories is hurting the organization.

The thing that spooks everyone is the fact that this isn't the first time she's stabbed a GM in the back. She pulled the same crap in Cleveland.

Woman in the middle? Come on, man. Misleading title. I was ready for some pics. This is BS. Wheres that thumbs down button...

Easy answer: because if she has a lifeline to Ross and does not answer to me, but to him, I really do not have control on the org. I would not submit to that. Now, I, as the GM, was her superior…that she answered to me and I could fire her potentially….fine, I would keep her on.

The issue with this isn't that Aponte isn't a junior GM in the organization, its the belief that she doesn't work for the GM she works for Ross. From what I can gather the issue people have is that if a GM wants to sign someone and Aponte doesn't think she can get the numbers to match up how she'd like she could report to Ross and not the GM and Ross has shown he doesn't know a lick about football.

Im not at all saying its justified or I agree but I think that is the issue people have.

I don't think potential GM candidates would have an issue with her sex. IMO they may have a serious issue, if the reports are true, she was basically Ross's snitch. That's a very hard reputation to over come. And if she was a snitch for Ross I have no doubt within their circle they would know the truth of that.

Exactly, perception unfortunately, in most cases is reality.
