Ok, so after I had a night to sleep on it my thoughts on the Phillips pick are that they absolutely stuck to their board. I am not a fan of the pick, but I can’t them for sticking to the board and taking the BPA. They chose what many believed to be a first round talent mid-way through the second round, hard to argue with that. Miami’s biggest weakness on defense last year was being gashed against the run, well that won’t happen up the middle in 2015.

It also tells me that as I have said for a while that ILB is not as big of a need in the eyes of the organization as it is in the eyes of the fans. Philbin and Coyle love Misi so as long as they are there he is going nowhere. We also know the Coyle does not trust rookies, so taking a ILB or a DB early didn't mean they were going to play.

Other than a vet that gets released after June 1 it looks like Miami’s starting lineup is pretty much set. Today they are drafting for depth, special teams and player development. There is still a lot of talent out there and much of it is raw but can be developed so assuming Hickey stays true to his board the rest of this draft will be about building the core and developing for the future. Who knows, maybe the find a diamond in the rough and somebody wins a starting job out of this group.

Fins up!!!!

Phillips has the ability to make this defense stout and nasty.

I see him rotating regularly with Mitchell to keep him fresh....Its going to be a tough line to deal with.

You may be underestimating the talent still on the board just a bit......would not surprise me at all if we found a starting guard, maybe even a mike with these next 5 picks.

I think we may package two of those fives to move up and get a second 4th round pick, or package one of the fives with our four to move up in the fourth. They have ammo to move around on day 3. Another luxury they have with all the fives is they can take the best kicker in the draft, and God knows we need one. You don't HAVE to invest a pick in a kicker, but if there is a guy that's a no rainer it's worth it. I have no idea what-so-ever if there is a kicker in this draft worth it though.

Or they believe in Tripp and McCain. I definitely think Tripp could be good .

I think we may be able to get a decent RB is they want to go in that direction. Would like to see a move up with some of the 5's but not sure if we can get a trade partner.

That was one of the things I thought as well. We still need a body or two at LB for depth and specials teams, but if they think one of those two is a legit starter, and the D-line is going to be elite and strong up the middle they may feel they can patch LB for now, and address MLB next year.

McCain is getting moved to DE according to reports

Lots of things we could be doing today. We could move up higher in the 4 round by using a 5 or we could use 2 of our 5s to get another pick in the 4. Also, a team might give us a 3rd next year for our 4 this year which I'd do. Then we could still get back in the 4 with the amo we have. Don't expect us to draft a guard or a MLB. We might do it byt don't expect it. The FO might feel that a rookie 4 round guard might be no better than what we already have. Same with corner. I expect us to draft a big RB. Also, expect us to draft at least 1 player from a small school.

Ozzy rules!!

For years we have heard Dolphin GMs say that they just take the best player available. The words were always good but guys like Ireland and Spielman actually prioritized each position and stuck pretty rigidly to that.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I was hoping and expecting a mike linebacker would be drafted in round 2, so that Koa Misi could comfortably return to the sam role (and especially since we didn't have a 3rd round pick after acquiring Kenny Stills). However, what we saw was that Hickey (and Tannenbaum) really did stick to their board and draft the BPA even if it was a little uncomfortable for some of us to live with.
By drafting Jordan Phillips it was a bit of a landmark selection for the Dolphins, in not playing it safe or predictable. This was actually a very aggressive draftpick to scare the hell out of our AFC East rivals - let's stuff the run - and they can't double team Ndamukong, Wake and a 6'5" 334 lb monster in Phillips, as well. Pick your poison.
Hickey and Tannebaum are backing their scouts and professional judgement with this pick (and I hope Phillips is as good as some think). I'm still of the view that Koa is not the answer at mike, but just maybe they have a lot more confidence in Jordie Tripp as an option at mike, as well. I'm still of the view Tripp can contribute when given the opportunity.

I think they defiantly could find a starter today. I am hoping Tre Jackson is still there at #114 as I think he could compete and possibly beat out Thomas for the starting LG. I also think they can find a RB today that can be the bruiser type guy that compliments Miller. However, I do think the bulk of today will be about depth, special teams, and development.

The Monsters of South Beach? lol

There is still talent out there at need positions.

A guy that I like a lot, who people seem to have forgotten about, is Jake Ryan out of Michigan. Made a lot of noise in 2012 at OLB. Tore his ACL in 2013, and then they moved him to Mike at the same time he was coming back from the injury last year. Kid works hard, is fast, and can bring the lumber.

Misi will be fine with Suh and Phillips in the middle.

Well do we need a true Mike if we run a 5-2?
