I'm not a cap expert or anything, so I was wondering if Daunte Culpepper (DC) for some reason or another doesn't turn out to be what we were expecting, couldn't we just cut him without realizing a cap penalty or do we assume the responsibility for the guaranteed money in his contract?

If we're not liable for DC's guaranteed money, I was thinking maybe that played a part in going with DC, since he could be cut without a cap hit in the case of him being unable to play whereas Brees would have to be paid the guaranteed money by us even if he never plays again.

Just thought I'd ask...

Regards

as long as we didnt agree to pay his bonus money we could cut him were not liable for the bonus money making his cap hit very small compared to the 10 million hit brees wanted us to take

Thanks for clearing that up Dolfan4life34. At least we have more options if things don't work out, but I think that Culpepper will do fine here.

With no signing bonus. It'd be smart to leave his contract as is and look at redoing it next year. Make him earn a rework.
