Between Williams and Wake, the Dolphins’ defensive end duo has made eight Pro Bowls. The only concern is that the 31-year-old Williams and the 34-year-old Wake are too far past their primes.

After turning in the best season of his career in 2014 with 14.5 sacks, the Bills released Williams this year after struggling with five sacks last season. He reportedly clashed with Buffalo coach Rex Ryan and at least one unnamed former teammate accused him of quitting on the team.
Williams is determined to prove that the Dolphins made the right choice in signing him in March.
“The most motivation that I have is to this organization,” Williams said. “I think the biggest thing is showing them that they’re right.”

I'm expecting big things from our ends this year. Lotta age, but also a lotta depth

Looking forward to finally rooting for his sacks, instead of years on the receiving end of them!

His talent didn't suddenly disappear from 2014 to 2015. He was playing out of position. The fact that the Bills even considered placing a DE of his size as a 3-4 OLB is a testament to his freakish athleticism for a DE.
Those pundits who claimed that the MW for OV change was a downgrade have to ask themselves what kind of season OV would have had were he to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme. I think he would have struggled mightily.
As 4-3 DE's go, MW is a much better player than OV.
I am a big UM and phin fan and was a huge supporter of OV, but the reality is that he's a very good complementary player who will never come close to playing up to his contract with the Giants. MW will have a better year for the Phins as he is an elite player.

What jlfin wrote will bear out to be true. The Giants overpaid big time. Williams is a way better player who has had a way better career. One is a star while the other is a good player. OV was the beneficiary of Suh and Wake getting double teamed thus leaving him one on one. Even with that advantage the bulk of OVs sacks were of the clean up variety with the QB running away from Wake and into his arms. In New York, he may be double teamed. If he is he won't have more than 6 sacks. On top of that he is not a great player against the run. I went to the U of M so I like OV very much but if I'm being honest I'm thrilled to swap him for Williams. I believe our defense will be much better than last years. We added Alonso, Williams, Jones, Branch to our front 7 and the result I predict will be more sacks and a much better unit vs. the run. Coach Joseph will play a press and attack scheme and I believe we have the talent to make that work. It would be nice to see Fede and McCain ball out this year. If Jordon comes back and is anything like the player he was supposed to be that's another huge boost but I'm not counting on it.

OV had two sacks in the games Wake played (1st 7 weeks) so the idea he was mopping up or reaping the benefits of Suh/Wake double teams is not exactly true. He had 11.5 sacks as a 2nd year player with Soliai, Starks and Odrick at DT. He may have benefited from that line more than the one with Earl Mitchell on it. He's a good player but the Giant will regret that deal.

I think OV would be fine in a 3-4 scheme but I also think Williams is the superior 4-3 DE. The guy is 6'7 295 and dropping into coverage as a 3-4 OLB? That's on Rex right there. He tried to force his scheme on 4-3 personnel.

I expect to see close to 15 sacks from Williams this year. I expect to see around 10 for OV only because he is playing a very talented D-line with good corners. Wake will have a monster year as well as he tries to outperform Williams. He will be fresher with less running snaps and better later in the season. Just my opinions.

OV sucked and I am glad he is gone. He was also a penalty machine, always on the huge 3rd downs too, screw him.

Eesti, if you're right, what a year the defense will have! We'll be one of most feared front 7s in Football. The key is Williams being dominant and forcing teams to double him. If that happens either Wake or Suh will draw a single and very few players will win a 1 on 1 against either one. I'm very excited to root FOR Williams, I've been rooting against him for years. I'm really pulling for the guy to be a great player for us.

OV's a good player....he's not 17 million good...but he's good.

Williams is at least as good...potentially better.

Williams has been lining up mostly at LDE during OTA's which is Wake's usual spot. I think that he is probably our best strong side DE because of the ability vs the run as well as pass. Typically you want the big end on that side. It makes sense.

It has always bothered me that Wake played on the strong side. He has never been great vs the run. Now it's a case where he is a specialist so you would need two players to man the SDE spot. It's not a great scenario. I know he favors rushing from that side but he has played on the weak side before with great results. He was the weak side LB in our old 3-4 and collected 14 sacks in 2010.

We have gotten progressively worse vs the run since Coyle change us to a 4-3 and used Wake on the left side.

I don't think they would switch Williams to the weak side when Wake comes in the game. That makes no sense. It would be better to put Mario on the left side and leave him there full time. He played there during his best years (under Schwartz) with the smaller, quicker Jerry Hughes on the weak side. They also would want Wake on the opposite side when Williams is in the game. Get the best two players rushing the passer at the same time.

This means that Wake may end up switching sides which makes more sense to me. He certainly has the ability and the smaller, quicker player should be going against the LT. That would put also put Andre Branch on the weak side in the base defense. He's played both in Jax but hasn't really had a lot of success. Now he could be the WDE playing the run with Wake spelling him as a pass rusher. I also think Branch still has some upside as a pass rusher. He is still young and needs to develop. He has never had a great veteran to learn from in Jax. He could pick up a few things from Wake.

I like this plan and hope they stick with it.

Weak side DE: Wake / Branch
Strong side DE: Williams / Jones

Jason Jones can also kick inside on passing downs.

I think is a huge upgrade over last year and definitely better vs the run.

WDE: OV/Fede
SDE: Wake/Shelby

Not sure how you came to that conclusion? Cam Wake lined up predominately at LDE each and every game. Do you consider the LDE the strong side? Maybe you are talking about not moving Wake away from the tight end side!?
