Disclaimer here, I hate statistics. There are so many variables during games, that it's hard to tease out the performance of one player/position. Typical illustration of that is how a player supposedly underperforms on one team, then breaks out on another. Having said that, here's a chart showing a (barely) average Tannehill on the deep ball.

Didn't someone say they had stats showing Tannehill at the top of the charts in this category? Didn't a second person tell me that Peter King's lumping of Tannehill in with Andy Dalton was ridiculous? Well, here is Tannehill at #21 in accuracy, and there is Dalton three spots away.

I think a QB has to play his OWN game to be successful. Who is Ryan Tannehill and who is he trying to model his game after? Is he like a Kaepernick and Russell Wilson? No, he's never going to be like those guys, they move around more than he does, and their reflexes are like wildcats. Is he like Matt Ryan or Tom Brady? They're pure pocket passers, and they're smarter, so no. Is he Flacco? No.

Part of what Ryan Tannehill has to figure out is how to be successful being HIM. The Miami Dolphin offense has no identity. And Tannehill himself is trying to sort that out, too.

I believe he was in the top ten last season. That is what that person was referring to. I've also seen it said that his accuracy throwing to all receivers not named Mike Wallace is up there, too.

Is what it is.

Who his coaches should be modeling him after is John Elway. A big arm, can move and is tough. Give him lots of roll outs of 3rd and short but don't be afraid to have him do it to the left. Let him run for first downs especially in the 4th quarter.

Brady @ 23. End of story.

And that's fine, because this is deep ball stats, and that is not Tom Brady's game. If we had true TE's, receivers who were perfect route runners, a QB with accuracy and decision making like Brady, and could read defenses like Brady, then I wouldn't mind at all. There's more than one way to get to the superbowl.

I didn't hear last season. And there was no link attached for me to know that. I don't remember who either poster was, to be honest. But I just remembered the comments as I reviewed the chart. In any event, we had few deep ball attempts last year. Our game was mostly Reggie Bush and Brian Hartline and guys like Anthony Fasano.

We had a number of deep ball attempts to Brian Hartline, mostly on double moves. We even threw a few to Davone Bess, which was kinda laughable.

One of the moves I agreed with was ugrading Bess. He was a liability in the EZ, and most anything outside the slot. I was worried though, that Gibson would be a bust, and we'd lose some move-the-chains ability, but for the most part Gibson worked out before his injury.

Brady @ 23. End of story.

yeah because brady has guys like mike wallace beating defenders by 3 yards. if mike wallace were a patriot he'd have 1000 yards and 10 TDs by now.

Wow, so because quite a few here have said Tannehill sucks at the deep pass, I guess Brady, RGIII, Ryan, Flacco, Palmer all suck even worse.

The lack of bootlegs on third and short is very puzzling.

Brady @ 23. End of story.

The common misconception is that P.Manning and Brady make their living off the deep ball and in actuality it is very much the opposite. There was a great article about 2 years ago on the intermediate passing game 8 to 15 yards and how Brady and Manning excelled at setting those passes up better than any two QB's in the league. I have tried to find that write-up several times this year but cannot for the life of me find a link to it or remember where it was I read it.

I've said this 100 times, all you have to do is be able to throw the deep ball to a real threat, you don't have to complete the deep ball to have success at what you are trying to accomplish.

You are correct, sir. The threat of Wallace on the field should open up other options for us and has. The problem is with all the injuries and the Martin/Incognito/OL mess we aren't in a good position to take advantage of them.

Maybe... But he'd likely have 37 dropped passes too.
