I hope we can trade down, and the two things that would help the most towards that end would be for Darrin McFadden's and Matt Ryan's respective stocks to skyrocket...

I don't think that there is any feasible scenario involving the Cowboys, and I think teams at the top of the draft are too needy to trade picks for a RB. However, should Atlanta win the coin toss at the combine and pick 3rd overall, they could be a possible trading partner.

If they would trade us their 1st and 3rd round picks to move to #1 overall (presumably to get Ryan), would you do it? I would. We would spend less money and still get either of the Longs or a DT if we will play the 4-3.

Note that I haven't looked at the draft chart, etc, but I was wondering if you would do it. It seems pretty fair for both sides (in my ignorance). Also, that scenario and others like it will prevent Tuna and Co from publicly saying how they feel about Beck between now and the draft.

Discuss.

Why not... They have made alot of boneheaded/stupid moves this season/offseason, it would only serve them right in that aspect to trade with us and use the first overall pick on Ryan

i would love life if that happened. Like you said, we'd still get either CLong or Dorsey (assuming Atl is moving up to get ryan or maybe even DMC)

but i seriously doubt they would do it. To them, if they get that 3 spot, they are all but guarenteed either DMC or Ryan because the rams arent taking either of those so why would they move up?

Unless someone else posted it and I just missed it, could someone please tell me exactly when they do the coin flip for the positioning in the draft? Thanks.

Kind of a catch 22. In order to increase the odds of other teams wanting to trade up for our pick, one or two guys are going to have to set themselves apart from everyone else and give the appearance of "elite" level player. However, if it's in a position that we are strongly looking at an upgrade, do we then want to trade out or take that now "elite" looking player ??? The only scenario that doesn't cause this problem is a position that we don't want/need to draft and other teams do. Even that becomes a problem because then everyone knows that and trades with the #2 or 3 team knowing we won't draft that player and they can save a buck or two.
Kind of ironic that many times in the past we would have loved to had the #1 pick because of who was available there. Now that we finally get it, all we can talk about is trading out of the spot.

Atlanta needs Ryan far more than DMac, whose stock by the way is dropping pretty hard it seems.
I think we have a shot at getting them to trade with us. And while I would get all I could from them, Id honestly drop to #3 if they only gave us a #2 in a heartbeat.

I would have to say NO.
They would have to give us more.

SD got more from the Giants for the #5 pick a few years back

Deal, we need picks and would still likely get Dorsey or Long at less cost. Why not? Will Atlanta be stupid enough? Doubt it.

what about the lions?they could go after ryan to.

I'd take the deal with the Falcons. The more picks we have, the better chance of hitting on a blue chipper. Let's face it, we need a lot of new faces and the draft is the cheapest and best place to get them.

Miami should just let the time click away on the top spot...IF they cannot trade out of it. Then keep doing the same process until C. Long or G. Dorsey is taking. Then just draft the other one with the next pick.

They would end up paying him less and draft one of them between picks 2 - 4.

That would send a message to the other teams in the NFL. STOP PAYING ROOKIES MORE THAN MOST PROBOWL CALIBER TYPE PLAYERS!!!

LOL...not gonna happen. But man that would be FUNNY!!! LOL

No deal.

The 1st overall pick is worth 3000 points.
The 3rd overall pick is worth 2200 points.

That's a difference of 800 points. Atlanta's 3rd round pick would only be worth 260 points. But their 2nd round pick would be worth 560 points.

Even if you throw the Trade Value Chart out, it seems pretty obvious that it's not an equal trade.

I'd do it for their 1st, 2nd, and 5th (which is only worth 42 points). Not exactly equal points-wise, but we'd still get a great player with the 3rd overall pick plus a potentially very good to great player in the 2nd round. And we'd get back the 5th rounder we lost for Trent Green.

And Atlanta would get their franchise QB.
