2. An instance of contented self-satisfaction.

If we would have drafted Clay Matthews, he would have been a bum.

Its sad but i could believe that for some reason

I agree...for some reason, young players don't seem to reach their potential in the Dolphins organization, move on to another team and flourish. It's like we're a black hole.

I can see Reggie Bush just 'disappearing' after his tenure with the Dolphins.

unfortunately Vontae give that pass up once every game. Last week it was slater. Next week it will me Masequio (SP)
that catch down the seam by andre johnson...there's nothing any cb could have done on that play...johnson just made a rediculous andre johnson like play

To think that people were saying Vontae was closing in on Revis status not so long ago. wow.

Finheaven is out of control. Is Vontae a legitimate starting corner? Yes. He would start on any team in the league right now (cromartie/vontae debates sure to ensue). A first round pick does not have to be top 5 at his position.

Well according to vontae himself, he is one of the best in the NFL. If so, intercept a pass for once or make a stand out play.

I don't care if he plays up to the hype he brings upon himself. The question is if he's living up to his draft selection, and I'm just shocked that people think he hasn't.

If you look at it from the standpoint of simply living up to the 25th pick in the draft, it's debateable. He's obviously starting caliber for the Miami Dolphins, but there are no other corners that have been on this roster that could've started over him anyway. Eric Green... Nolan Carroll....Benny Sapp...etc...

The point is Vontae Davis isn't living up to HIS potential. If all you think a guy has to do to live up to his draft status is keep a bunch of scrubs from taking his job outright.... then consider it an overwhelming success.

You can count the number of CB's in the league with Vontae Davis' physical gifts and talent on both of your thumbs. What's important is that Vontae lives up to HIS ability, and gets the most out of the rare talent that he has. He doesn't do that because he's not consistent enough.

Clay Matthews was taken after Vontae.... Matthews is living up to both his draft status, and his potential as a player. Same for Hakim Nicks.

The 'hype' surrounding Vontae is irrelevant.... I don't care about him living up to the hype. I care about him living up to the rare talent and ability that you just don't see come along very often with cornerbacks. He's a physical freak... he has the potential to be much better than he is.

Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain lived up to their draft status and ability. Hell, they actually both surpassed it. Neither of them were blessed with the physical tools and talent that Vontae Davis has.

I don't think people realize how far short Vontae Davis falls of his actual potential. And he thinks he's already elite?

He has no idea how good he could really be if he WORKED towards actually being elite, and wasn't already convinced that he is...

well lets not act like he was a stud in new orleans. he is basically a very good return man and very good runningback receiver but he has never been a star in this league just a name

What exactly has he done the past couple of years? Besides the two picks on Brady awhile back, what has Vontae done to change the course of a game in the favor of the Dolphins. Is it the fact that teams can rotate their star wideouts and Vontae has no help or is Vontae not a game changing corner?

Vontae has basically shut down some top WRs over the past couple of years, that's what. INTs aren't the whole story, not even close. There's a reason so many opposing offenses respect Vontae Davis. Favre said he was one of the best young CBs he had faced in the last couple of years when Miami beat Minnesota, Brady has said that Vontae is the first person on Miami's defense that he is concerned with locating.

Vontae Davis has been dealing with a nagging hamstring this season so far, but to sit there and play the "What have you done for me lately" game is just stupid

Honestly this type of nonsense is what is the downfall of FinHeaven. You people are seriously overreacting about Davis right now... just like people saying Sean Smith should be demoted to 3rd string because of his game against the Patriots. He was INJURED. The coaching staff of the Miami Dolphins left our players out to dry because they became so predictable that the Patriots came in with a brilliant game plan... no huddle the Dolphins defense to **** because our substitutions and packages take way too long to call up. It was pathetic watching a guy who was clearly struggling with a pretty gimped up leg get thrown on. We should be furious with our coaching staff, not Vontae Davis or Sean Smith. Vontae is dealing with a hurt hamstring, Sean Smith I believe hurt his hamstring or his knee. Either way, we are in some serious trouble right now.

Also, ReShad Jones is a massive reason why our corners are looking piss poor. They are on islands out there because Jones is constantly out of position and taking the wrong angle. Wes Welker? That was on Jones. Yes, I know, it's popular to blame Benny Sapp, but that was Cover 1. You have to ****ing TRY to get beat in Cover 1 if you're the FS, you're supposed to be behind every receiver until the ball is thrown. Andre Johnson's touchdown? That was on Jones as well. He was WAY out of position while poor Nolan Carrol was playing a cover 3 back zone. Jones was supposed to have that quadrant and he just blew it because he bit on what he thought was going to be a deep post to a WR who was already covered by Burnett and Bell on top.

You can pay me millions of dollars and I will stand on the sideline and complain of menstrual cramping! Lay off the weights and do a little cardio!!

I don't think Vontae is living up to his 1st round draft status. It's obvious the guy CAN be excellent. But it should also be obvious that Sean Smith has been better.

I disagree because Smith sat on the bench last year while Davis played. So the jury is still out. Just my opinion but even if the more talented player is on the bench for example he is contributing less than the player on the field this bench sitting could be due to injury or just a coach making the mistake of benching the player but you have to be on the field to contribute. Also I am still irked that Smith has had his hands on numerous intecetions that he has dropped.

You're asking a whole lot out of this position. Count all the corners in the league that satisfy this threshold of 'game changer'? He doesn't have to be a HOF or an All-Pro to justify being taken near the bottom of round 1....
