The Air Force Academy reprimanded coach Fisher DeBerry on Wednesday for what it called “seriously inappropriate†comments about black athletes, but stopped short of firing him for his second public firestorm in as many years.

The 67-year-old coach, who is suffering through a 3-5 season this year, issued an apology.

“I realize the things I said might have been hurtful to many people and I want everyone to understand that I never intended to offend anyone,†he said.

I actually didn't think what he said was bad. That's just me though. He said black people are faster then white people, big deal, they are, all he was doing was telling the truth. It's funny how sensative people are nowadays, you have to walk around the truth now because you might offend someone. I don't think he's a racist, I don't think it's a racist statement, and I think the media making this an issue is a joke!

I agree. I feel that when African Americans call each other the "N" word its more racist then this. Seriously name one person in America that hasn't said what the coach said either in his head or out loud to friends? He probably shouldn't have said it out loud to the media but that's a different story all together. Isn't this the same thing that that college baseball coach in I believe it was OK, or OK State maybe and he ended up leaving/getting fired over it?

He didn't have anything to apologize for. Blacks didn't take offense, whites didn't take offense, so who cares. Politically correct people need to quit being so uptight & snobbish & see the real world.

How does that offend anybody its the truth. Thats not racist nor offensive and he should be given a pat on the back for saying it. The fact of the matter of most of us white people are slow

I live in Colorado Springs and have been going to Air Force games the past 25+ years...Fisher has been here since the early 1980's, and he has done so much for the Air Force Falcons football teams. He is from South Carolina and is 67 years old, so maybe he didn't use a lot of tact in what he said but he is not a racist. Air Force almost always has fast little players and most of the cadets at the Air Force Academy just happen to be white. DeBerry has not had an easy time recruiting black athletes to the Academy....I think he was just saying it would be nice if they could get more black athletes to come play football at the Academy......pretty much all of the football players, including the black players did not feel he said anything wrong....it is a shame he is being made to apologize for this. I just got me a sweet game worn Falcon's uniform with the lightning bolt logo on the sleeves....it looks sweet...I am going to the Army game in a couple weeks. GO AIR FORCE!!!!! :)
