Well the decade has past and its a good thing it is over.
Not counting the decade of the 60's when the Dolphins existed for only 4 years this has been the worst full decade for the Dolphins

Final numbers are as follows

79 wins 81 losses and 0 ties, 3181 points scored 3176 points allowed.

Pretty "mediocre" as Tony put it and losing record for the decade is what it amounts too. A win against Pittsburgh last week would have left us at .500 and wins against pitt and houston would have left us just barely a winning team for the decade. And of course we would be playing NE this weekend and the Jets would be sitting at home.

How did we stack up against the other members of the AFC east

head to head

10-10 vs Buffalo
9-11 vs NE
7-13 vs Jets

26-34 against divisional opponents. Not very good.

Decade record

NE 112 wins 48 losses 0 ties, 4003 points scored, 2897 points allowed
Jets 80 wins 80 losses 0 ties, 3181 points scored, 3109 points allowed
Bills 66 wins 94 losses 0 ties, 3014 points scored, 3430 points allowed

From this we can see that we could have finsihed ahead of the jets win 2 wins in those final games also but they just edged us out.

How does this compare to past Dolphin decades

70's 104 wins 39 losses 1 tie, 3313 points scored, 2133 points allowed
80's 94 wins 57 losses 1 ties, 3581 points scored, 3135 points allowed
90's 95 wins 65 losses 0 ties, 3480 points scored, 3078 points allowed

This is definitely a decade of Dolphin football that i don't want to remember.

Playoff totals for the decade also

NE 14-3 and counting with 3 Championships and 7 division titles
Jets 2-4 and counting with 1 division title
Miami 1-3 with 2 division titles
Buffalo 0-0, never made the playoffs in the decade.

I guess things could be worse. We could be in Buffalo's shoes. Yuck!

I think these numbers illustrate, more than anything else, the impact of a coach and a quarterback on a team's fate. We really didn't have either one for the vast majority of the decade.

Decade sucked. How do you have a leading rusher and sacker in one season and not make the playoffs?

Nothing will change until this team gets a superstar player, period. No playoff team lacks one.

I'm going to start keeping record of how many depressing posts you make.

We just need time... What I love the most about this team is the heart it has, and the hard working/no nonsense attitude of the administration (as well as in the players they draft and pick up). Of course there are some people out there that aren't satisfied with Miami but, its not like they are winning super bowls every year...

Time... Just give it time.

Updated Playoff totals for the decade

NE 14-4 with 3 Championships and 7 division titles
Jets 3-4 and counting with 1 division title
Miami 1-3 with 2 division titles
Buffalo 0-0, never made the playoffs in the decade.

NE dynasty is officially over!

That's a good point, to add a little, I think it also shows what happens when you draft poorly which has been happening until recently.

nail meet hammer. the draft is exactly what doomed this franchise.unbelievably poor judgement of talent in trades and draft choices. we dug this deep deep hole ourselves.
