I saw another thread like this on Channing Crowder and figured I would make one on Jason Allen. He has been subject of debate for as long as hes been wearing the aqua and orange. I want to hear some of your opinions and insight on this young kid.

Ill start out by saying that I DEFEND JASON ALLEN. Personally, I think the kid has what it takes to play Free Safety. Everytime the guy steps out on the field as a starter back there he delivers hard hits, bats passes down, brings them down for the interception. Hes a playmaker. Ive heard people say he doesnt have it upstairs and hes always out of place. But from what ive seen hes in the right spots and making plays, I just dont see why hes not out there starting. Reynaldo Hill is garbage and Jason Allen would make our defense strong in the secondary I believe. What do you think? DEFEND or ATTACK?:woot:

So when the players said that having Renaldo on the field was the reason they were able to turn it around at the end of the season in the secondery, you threw that out???

I'll go with what the players said, they know a HECK of a lot better about themselves than you do. I like Renaldo. Jason had his chance and it does swell when he does get his chance, but he is on the sideline for a reason.

Hes a hard hitter, but his biggest knock is he isnt smart enough to diagnose plays or read offenses

I'm with you. I am one of the fans that actually watch the games and TVO them for future breakdown when I'm bored. Jason Allen is definitely a keeper. He still has potential to be either a starter on the outside, or a starter at NB/DB formations.

He has all the tools, like you said. Hearing Sparano speak, he actually praises Jason Allen. He moved him finally "permanently" to the CB position and so he was getting him ready and let him get some time, which he looked pretty impressive I might add, as well as excelled in STs...

But then Sparano decided to continue to groom him and inserted Nate Jones during crunch time. I expect Jason Allen to be at least the NB/DB this upcoming season and either challenge Goodman or Will for one of the starting spots....or eventually supplant Will Allen once his contract expires.

I think that Parcells will select "one" CB, not two. Goodman and Will are the starters "now"....the rookie we draft will be the future at one CB spot and Jason Allen is the future at the other spot.

Not sure if you are making sense to yourself but Channing Crowder has started in all of his games since he was drafted. Jason Allen in the other hand could not even beat any of our average corners.

we really havnt gotten anything out of him.. so ill say attack cuz i had high hopes for the man

Jason Allen was the reason we lost to the Patriots 48 to 28. He's a bust.

ya I agree jason allen is a bust, and so is 40% of the rest of the roster that hasn't done what some fans have expected to.
shame on them for not excelling over a three year period where we had three head coaches, three different staffs and three different philosophies.

cut them all. they all suck. they are all busts.

give up on all of them now before it's too late.

(read this in a sarcastic tone of voice aloud to yourself)

think before you type.

#1.. the crowder referral was simply an idea as to how he got the idea to start a thread.

#2.. you are sadly mistaken if you think crowder has started all games since he was drafted.

He missed a game just this past year, and I believe five or six the year before that.

jason allen doesn't need to beat any corners, when they were trying to implement him in at safety, oh wait, he got moved AGAIN, so now he is doing different things AGAIN.

you can't just keep switching a guy year in and year out. it will only impede progress.

I would not call Jason Allen a bust. Nick Saban is a bust for drafting him at that spot. JA is overpaid. JA was put on Randy Moss in the second game. I thought he did better than anyone else could have. He was on him tight in most situations. Moss just played one of those games where he catches everything thrown 3 feet over his head while twisted in the air on the sideline. I ask: WHO ELSE ON THIS FRIGGIN TEAM WOULD HAVE STOPPED THAT!

No one. So what we discovered this season is that JA is a good player and provides good depth in our defense, but is simply not good enough for what he gets paid. This regime will let him go at some point but since our cap situation is way under control, they may just let his contract run out and let him get a second year in this regime.

JA has not had any stability from the team standpoint since he got here. Move him to corner, now go back, now go back to corner. We need you at safety on this one Jason, yadda yadda yadda. He has been a yo yo.

Bottom line: We know who JA is now and is overpaid but can he be traded for more than what we get out of him? Will he make strides this coming year because more stable situation? Is his contract dictating he is still currently making too much money? These are all questions they are pondering.

ah I am not the only one who sees.

im not ready to give up on him yet.... but the needle is starting to go to the bust side...

Your joking right?

Jason Allen was one on one all day with Randy Moss. There's one or two corners in this league that even have a small chance with Moss one on one. That was 100% on the D-cord for that call. You at least have to have a chance to succeed, and being left on an island with Randy Moss is not what I call a chance. Even Moss said after the game he felt disrespected that we only kept one person on him all day.

Three safties were taken in the 1st round in 06

7. Michael Huff Raiders
8. Donte Whitner Bills
16. Jason Allen Fins

Not one of those players has done anything in the NFL to merit a first round pick. And from what Ive seen of all three, none of them will ever do anything in the NFL.
