This is a joke, the defense is bad too. Everytime(not thats it is frequent) we score the defense immediately gives up a score. I have a very strong feeling if the offense was scoring the defense would give up a ton of points. It just doesn't seem like we can stop anyone when we have too, and please don't read me any stats. Just like scoring against a prevent is very misleading(which is the only way we score) when your never ahead in a game the other teams urgency to score just isn't there.

You mean the defense of ours that's ranked #7? #10 In points allowed? How we are a 1-3 team with a top 10 defense is beyond me. Oh wait, no it's not - it's the entire offense we have.

Ask yourself this becuase this is WHEN its important:

Has the offense scored when we have had the lead: NO
Has the defense stopped anyone when we have had the lead: NO

Good teams answer yes.

Considering the personnel on our defense, they are doing quite well. The secondary is pieced together from rookies and castoffs and they are doing well enough. The linebackers, outside of Thomas, are either unproven or average. The defensive line is solid, though only one guy is particularly outstanding.

So the defense gets a "pass" in the sense that they are overachieving while the offense is underachieving.

I say don't read me stats .

The stats in this case, personal attacks aside, fly directly in the face of the point you were trying to make. I could sit there and come up with some anecdotal evidence if you'd like:

"This defense plays consistently until the late game, at which point they've been ground down by being on the field so much. They're the only reason why we're even semi-competent at the moment!"

There, same end result, with no stats!

Well, the defense set the offense up with great field position after turnovers twice yesterday, and the offense only turned them into field goals. Turn either of those (or both) into touchdowns and the Dolphins win the game.

But it's not good when the defense holds down Houston for three quarters, then suddenly lets up with two touchdown drives in the fourth. The defense has definitely outplayed the offense so far this year, but they have made their fair share of mistakes.

I feel the same way. If we wanted to take it a step further we could even say our defense would be even better if we werent getting killed in TOP. We gave up some points in the 4th quarter yesterday because the D was so worn out...JT was taking smelling salts on the sideline to try to get his head back in the game. I thought that picture said it all about this team.

Well, it's difficult to argue with somebody who doesn't want to see the proof. You go off and make up your own measuring stick and say "hey, it's this or nothing." That's not the way to have a debate.

For what it's worth, the Dolphins defense has been involved in a whopping 9 drives this season when they've had the lead. Four of those times they have stopped the opposing team. Twice they allowed a field goal, leading to a tie. Three times they allowed the go-ahead score. Meanwhile, in the four drives the Dolphins offense has had with the lead, they have done nothing. I don't even know if they've gotten a first down.

So you're wrong, and since you're being arrogant about it I'm going to tell you to shut up.

I Agree, this defense is nothing special.. Definitely not good enough to hold, we are gonna have to score 21+ a game to have a chance..

First of all the offense sucks nobody is arguing that and do you really consider stopping the opposing team 4 out of 9 times when it matters most, good?

Our defense isnt as atoricious as our Offense.. i am starting to think that our defense is getting deflated from the lack of production from the offence... We make the move and bring in daunte and he's been a giant bust.. i bet those guys are pissed and just plain down and out... Taylor returns the ball yesterday... all we have to do is drive a measly 30-40 yards.... Nope... field goal... pathetic.

That's odd. I thought the defense has allowed the following:

21 (against Pittsburgh)
16 (against Buffalo)
10 (against Tennessee)
17 (against Houston)

How does that amount to 21+? An average of 18 (below the NFL average) would have Miami at 3-1.

Well, since that comes down to about two chances per game, that's a very small sample size.

I had this discussion in 2004 when people tried to blame the defense. You can say "the defense only held four times out of nine" but I can say that only once did they allow more than 20 points (21, actually). That was late in the fourth quarter as well.

You need to realize that when you're saying the Dolphins defense is bad because they allowed 10 points instead of 3 you sound like a - what's the word -

I am not blaming the defense, the offense is the reason we suck no doubt about it. But what I am saying is I have a strong feeling that if the offense didn't suck we would see the defense get scored upon alot more. Teams just haven't had to score much to beat us becuase the offense sucks so bad. But again what I am saying is if other teams HAD to score they would.
