Is it possible to construct a team to where you aren't limited to one particular type of defensive scheme and you can change on a weekly basis based on the team you're playing? For example, lets say we usually run a 4-3 scheme, but we play a team that has been weak against 3-4 teams. So to exploit that teams weakness, we run a 3-4 scheme moving some starters around and plugging in pieces to fill the voids. Example, when switching from 4-3 to 3-4 Suh would go from DT to DE and we'd sub in a big fat NT and another guy with 3-4 DE size build (Fede etc..) to man the other DEnd spot. If wake and vernon are the 4-3 defensive ends, then they'd either move to OLB or if they can't do it they'd go to the bench and we'd sub in a player that has the skillset to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme. Is this not doable?

For this season, I would rather see them master one defensive scheme and then, if they have mastered it, have the ability to switch later in the season depending on the opponent. Going forward, as they increase the talent level, I would like to see them have a defense that can cause other teams to adjust to them rather than the other way around. To this end, they need LB's that can make tackles and complement the DT's and DE's. Way too many teams were able to run straight ahead and gain big yards on a regular basis. Suh and Vernon (if they can keep him) can only do so much on the line, they need LB's and others to step in when he is double-teamed and make the play.

Happens all the time, especially with the better coached teams:

Have we ever done it?

Coyle tried it. That's why he kept looking for that hybrid DE/OLB but never found the right one. First if was Dion Jordan and then Chris McClain.

Later in the year Suh did play some DE in a DL hybrid front and did pretty well.
