Delgado to Mets!

%$!^!^

How could we not get Heilman or Milledge? We now have 10 SP prospects, and nowhere to put all of them. This sucks to me, because the last time we traded a star within the division it was Mike Piazza. How'd that work out?

Anyway, how good are Jacobs and Petit?

Jacobs can hit. He can play.

Yep, just heard and came back in to Post. Great trade.

Jacobs has a future, but has not hit leftys as of yet.

But we are in a win now mode!

MR WAGNER, COME ON ABOARD!

Jacobs will be a good one, and I like Petit. We're still probably going to suck next year.

So right now the line-up will look something like this.

C-(Whoever we get for Lo Duca)
1b-Jacobs
2b-Castillo(or whoever we get for him)
SS-HamRam
3b-Cabs
LF-Willingham/Conine?
CF-JP/Aguila/Whoever we get for JP
RF-Hermida

SP-Willis
SP-Vargas
SP-Johnson?
SP-Petit?
SP-Olsen?

Petit is probably good enough to start for us right away, Sanchez might or might not be ready.

Looks like a promising future, but we'll suck unless someone steps up and helps Miggy and D-Train.

maaaan i didn't want the mets to trade jacobs... i understand win now, but i feel like jacobs could develop into a quality player for a while... ehhhhhh

I've got mixed feelings on this one.

On the one hand, Delgado is a power hitting first baseman and gives the Mets precisely what they need in the middle of the lineup. He's consistent and he costs a LOT less than Manny Ramirez would, in both cash and prospects. Plus, the Marlins are paying about $7 million of his remaining $48M in salary, which is a nice bonus.

On the other, I believe, as Buster Olney said in his ESPN blog today, that they could have gotten Delgado even cheaper. The Marlins were dying to move his contract and there weren't a lot of suitors. It was basically the Mets and the Orioles, and the O's weren't offering much. I think the Mets could have probably said, "we'll take his contract, give you Mike Jacobs and you'll be happy with that." Moreover, I've yet to read that the Mets sat down with Delgado and worked out all the bad blood that developed from the catastrophic recruitment of him last year as a free agent. If they didn't, they've picked up an unhappy, expensive player who can demand a trade after the season. Not so good.

So I don't know. If the word over the next few days is that Delgado is happy with this, then I'm okay with the deal.

Delgado just took a lot of pressure off of Beltran I will tell you that much. The media will be all over Delgado now. Think he will stand for the national anthem and in the 7th inning stretch in NY for 81 games??? The media is gonna be all over him. Beltran can take a deep breath and just play now.

I know nothing about Petit aside from his measurables:
http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/yusmeiro-petit.shtml

Petit was 20 last year and dominated AA. That K/BB ratio is insane. At 6-0, 180, he's on the smallish size for a power pitcher, though, so durability may be an issue. Figure he's at least a year away from the bigs.

I think Jacobs is all right. I don't think he's as good as he showed last season, though. Ultimately, I think he'll be one of those first basemen who hits about .280/.350/.450 and plays about 120 games because he has to sit out against left handed pitching.

You got a source for that, Mr. Gammons?

Then who plays first since we traded Jacobs to you?

Probably Nady. He was going to platoon with Jacobs anyway. But I'm not buying this in the first place, so it's probably a moot point.
