Dennis Hickey was like many appointees, not the first choice. Nevertheless, any good GM should be judged by how he drafts.

DH went onto the 2014 draft with 6 picks and came away with:-

Jawaun James
Jarvis Landry
Billy Turner
Walt Aikens
Matt Hazel
Terence Fede
Damien Williams

Only Stephen Ross, could turn around and cut the balls from under him by hiring someone to be his boss and then take what he done so well, away from him. I think it is forgotten due to all the mayhem how well this draft was. I read an article recently where many former GM's classed a successful draft as having '3 players with the potential to become starters'. With just 6 picks Hickey far exceeded this.

It is likely now that Hickey will be fired and we again go on the rebuilding merry go round.

Landry is now my favourite fin and I lambasted Hickey at the time first drafting James but he deserved better after nailing that draft.

Don't forget the 2015 draft.

Parker
Philips
Stills
Douglas
Ajayi
McCain
Thomas

It's still to early to full judge this draft but it is promising. Parker, Philips and Ajayi look like future studs. Douglas has struggled but has been forced to play out of position. McCain contributed and Stills did OK.

Overall solid performance by Hickey given the dumpster fire he inherited from Ireland.

I'm not sure how much control he had in 2015. It's just a complete contrast to what he did with Philbin. ....... it seems if your successful take away control and if you struggling give you more control. Abysmal

Unfortunate! Really liked the guy. What GM in their right mind comes here and really think they are in control?

The only one in in this organization's management worth a damn is the only one being fired.

Seriously,you can't make this **** up.

Hickey is not a good gm, he just happens to not be as bad as Ireland.

Ross being Ross now has someone worse than either of those 2 running the show

Ultimately results rule, but what I loved about Hickey is that he instituted a very strong, inclusive process. You'd be surprised how often scouts and coaches are ignored in many teams, for example, how many dysfunctional processes there are out there -just like in most large corporations. With Hickey we were taking a step beyond politics and self-interest into the first world of football management. So of course Ross had to get rid of him :rolleyes2:

What's your source? Are you in the Dolphins' front office?

Yeah I never understood the desire to fire Hickey. Best drafts the Dolphins have had in years. My opinion is that Tannenbaum is threatened by Hickey because he clearly drafts better than Tannenbaum ever did.

Seriously?

Please tell me how you know that Jeff Ireland ignored everyone else in the building and Dennis Hickey is getting all of their input and acting on it? Beyond the obvious "Jeff Ireland was a moron" argument, obviously.

Incidentally, if you like Dennis Hickey's drafts, then you shouldn't be too upset with this move. Grier is our director of college scouting.
